Deadmarsh wonders bout Retirement

poor deader. i think he should retire, he's had a great career and i think he's done all that u can ask. the guy is hurt bad and should move to the next stage of his life. if down a few years he feels ready to come back, then maybe he should look at coming back, but i think he should really just retire now.

thanks deadmarsh for all you've done for us. it's been great!

Why should he retire??

He should take the year off... Everyone's gunna take the year off next year (lockout) which means he'll have two and a half years to get his head clear... then assess the situation at age 30.

He's frustrated, we're all frustrated about it.. Deader's a great player, a great teammate, we traded Blake to get the guy not to mention the uninsured $3 mil contract could be spent elsewhere right now...

..but it's no reason to throw in the towel when his future and the league's future is so up in the air and he's still really young.

You just gotta be patient and hope things work out.

I feel terrible for Deader... He's been through so much for the past year and I hope this isn't the end for him. It would be such a shame for a promising career to be cut so short. One thing is for sure, he's a determined person and I have no doubt that he will try to come back because that's just the kind of guy he is.

I do agree with everything said on this. Deader is a brilliant hockeyman who plays with heart and grit. I want Allison back in the line up without a doubt but, Deader's character is what would really be placing us as contenders right now and to say his presence is missed is an understatement to say the least.

I would though rather him just say that this year is a write off and that he is going to continue working with his specialists with the hopes of returning to the game someday. Just take the pressure off of him and his family as well as his team and just take a step back, as painful as that might be, and work this from the propper (I feel) angle. Work at this from the "I am fighting for a healthy life first" attitude and then if he can get it back together and work into the game again then brilliant. I believe that he is the kind of bloke who would come back to us first and give us a shot at his skills even if he didn't have a contract. He has always come off as a stand up guy and I bet that he would still be the same.

I feel his pain

I know Deader's pain, and I worry that he will not be able to ever return and be effective. I Played college football and after receiving my 3rd concussion in 1 1/2 years was forced to retire. For 6 months afterwards I was constantly exhausted, and battled intermitent dizziness. I still have occasionaly sympoms such as: difficulty remaining focused, losing my train of thought and forgetting certain things. My grades went from an easy 3.75 to a sub 3.0, that I worked my rear end off for. It bothers me that NHLers often times don't wear mouth pieces and many times have poor or improperly fitted helmets. Not that concussions are totally avoidable even with that. Freak accidents happen but I'd feel better if players would be more catious with their heads.
Even if/when deader can return I am somewhat skeptical that he will be able to be durable enough to avoid future concussions....with each concussion the symptoms can be different and sometimes the side effects will take longer to subside. Lindros and Troy Aikman are classic examples in each of their cases recovery took longer and their skills dropped a little each time.
I pray that Deader gets healthy so that he can live a normal life, in many cases injuries like his result in depression and though i'd love to see him out there on the ice again, I'd much rather have him be happy and enjoy life as best he can.
