Toby Playing D - This is just too funny.

It appears the hockey gods are playing with us.

From TSN.ca:

"Centre Toby Petersen will shift to defence on Friday against the Ducks as the Oilers are dealing with a rash of injuries."

Thankfully the season was a write off before so we can all appreciate the humour in the situation. That 1st to 4th pick is sure looking possible.

This probably means he'll get 1st line LW ice time on the PP.

We sort of have to adjust our perspectives at this point. I don't mind losses, but I'm looking to see some effort nonetheless.

In this situation, I don't mind Toby on the point.. as long as he's not on the point during the pp.. although, at this point.. I gave up caring anyways.

I don't get it, what's so funny? He has played on defence before. This is his 3rd or 4th time this season he has. It's not like MacT was like "Ok, we're short defenceman and can't call anyone up. I KNOW!!! I'll have my FAVORITE player Toby Petersen play D since I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! And he is SO AMAZING defensively" Toby has played D before playing in Edmonton.

I like the fact that they have the option of putting Petersen back on the point. He can't be any worse than MAB was...besides, like Rin said, he has experience.

he didn't look out of place playing their vs. TBay either. As long as Mac T can keep him away from Selanne and Co. as much as possible he'll be fine.

He also has the ability to make a decent first pass.

Like most said, who cares at this point but at least give the kid some slack. He might not be Gretzky but at least he shows up every game (MR. SYKORA...)

As much as you guys like to pick on Petersen, he was surprisingly decent last game when he was moved back to the point.

I was at the game (my first game of the year) and I mentioned to the guy I was there with that I was surprised to see Peterson back on D with Greene when they still had 4 D left. His response was something like "You have to put SOMEBODY defensively responsible out there with Greene."

That'd be the reason why having him on the point at this point is a good idea.. even I was impressed.

MAB- 10 goals----23 assists---33 points

Toby- 3 goals---6 assists---9 points

Toby has about 25% the production MAB had. And being -9 he isn't exactly the defensive specialist.

Im guessing the coaches were looking at the stat sheet and saw Toby's numbers, they looked like a stay at home defenseman, so they put him on defense.

I dislike Toby Petersen for absolutely no reason that is his own fault, but that's what I said at the game Wednesday: "What's sadder, that Toby Petersen is playing D or that he looks better than some of our real d-men have lately?"

I have a hate for MAB...can't even tell you why...so, based on that fact, I'm standing by my Petersen can't be any worse statement!

I'm pretty sure Peterson has played D in the AHL before, I think that's the reason he's back there. Besides which other forward would you choose?

Why are people so shocked by this? He's played defence before, and we don't have any defencemen available. I'd have to think he'd be a better option than Bisaillon, or however you spell it.

There aren't many options..

Syvret - Petersen is steadier IMO right now.
Brodziak - I'd like to see him play the point. He did in WBS to some success, and he made some nice passes from what I saw of his first game with the Oil.
Smid - Lets get his offense going. Has anyone seen him take a slapshot?
Horcoff - He's better off on the halfboards IMO, but...

Yeah... life without Stoll is hurting.

Syvret is supposedly a PP specialist and im sure is better then petersen on the point in every way.

Meh, Petersen is the only option we have. There are no more defensemen to call up, none. So who of our forwards would people rather have on the point? The only guy I can think of is Petersen. I like the move, as its the only move we have.

I would have brought Schremp up a long time ago. I would have played him 2-3 minutes a game, loaded with PP time. Would it work? Probably not, but atleast I would go out swinging, atleast give myself a shot to win. Toby won't get scored on but he won't score either, and isn't that the point of the PP... to score?

Wow, people, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment.

The Oilers are going to miss the playoffs and they've transformed into a terrible team. Learn to make fun of it and enjoy.

Would it be a crime to actually say something nice about TP once in while? Like, for example, that he makes the NHL minimum wage and literally does whatever he is asked to do? I think a lot of you guys have been brutal to Toby all year long.

Makes me nuts...

Can't a mod merge all the Peterson hate into one thread, or will that empty the homepage?

see above ^
