Countdown to elimination

It's a lot earlier than it was last year, but we're now within a hair's breadth of not even having any mathematical hope of the post-season.

The Kings' "tragic number" is now down to 5 points -- losses of 5 points in their final 15 games will eliminate them (or if Dallas, Minnesota, and Calgary all get 5 points each).

I'm sure that it's theoretically possible, but probable?

It's happened. The Kings are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

I found that last part quite amusing.

At least they weren't the only team eliminated last night -- Philly's loss to Phoenix also mathematically eliminated them.

We were eliminated the minute that we traded for Cloutier.

My vote for understatement of the year.... Sorry to steal a line from an old movie, but... How do we solve a problem like Cloutier? If LA buys him out, doesn't his salary count against the cap? Send him to Manchester? Seems like a harsh sentence for the 'Narchs...

I'd cut him and eat the deal.

Only other alternative is that his lateral movement sucks even worse when he comes back, and DL could probably stick him on LTIR, citing his hip as reason for his decline. Something like that.

Good, so you won't be caught by surprise when the Kings get down to 8 games remaining
