Rivet played 26:36 yesterday night !

Not bad for a guy who was considered almost as a #7 d-man in Montreal...

Benching him was the worst mistake Carbo has done this year.

Not benching Kovalev instead is his second worst !

I wouldn't mind re-signing him this off-season, as long as we could get rid of one of Dandy or Bouillon.

Or if Markov or Souray signed elsewhere.

He was injured/sick...

And earlier in the season when he was indeed benched, he had been playing horribly. So essentially, if he had of been playing 25+ minutes here, it would of hurt the team tenfold.

It's a lot easier to play those minutes and not be crappy for a team like San Jose. Not so difficult when you are surrounded by guys like Thornton, Marleau, etc. instead of a bunch of Habs stiffs.

Interesting. It only took a couple of weeks for someone to point out how great Rivet is. And all he had to do was log big minutes. How great is that. For the record I did think that we would miss him more than we initially thought, but what's done is done.

I don't understand the point of the thread though. Are we supposed to think Rivet was misused here? Is it a thinly veiled attempt to bash Kovalev? Are we supposed to blame Gainey for getting rid of Rivet? I just don't see the point of starting a thread about Rivet playing big minutes once, and bringing Kovalev into the mix.

Mostly this is just a waste of a thread.

I'm not sure that Rivet will coming back next year, I've feeling that he will re-sign with San Jose...

Like Damphousse did few years ago...

And It better for him...

Watched the Canucks - Sharks last night.

Rivet was not impressive. His usual limitations were in evidence.

Crappy break out passes, etc.

And he let Sedin get behind him for the break away winner in OT.

Gainey did well to get a 1st and Gorges.

Rivet did not play well last night, the first time that he has not impressed me as a Shark. Before that, he was absolutely outstanding.

Sedin's goal was Kyle McLaren's fault, though.

Good for him. But he didn't deserve that time in Montreal and he deserved to be benched.

Thing is though that even if he doesnt play well, everyone respects him and he adds that confidence and communication to a defence core.

Saw some of the game and highlights saw him chasing Sedin in OT looking like his skates were glued to the ice.

Everybody knew Rivet had endurance. That doesn't make him a good player thought. Imo he is a good 6th defenseman, but is limited both by his talent and size to be more than that.

I've been watching Rivet play with the Sharks and if I didn't know how well he'd play with the defensemen in Montreal, I'd say that Gainey go after him this off season. He's changed his game around... or Wilson's system is working better for him. He looks really good out there, but we all know Carbo's system + Habs D don't work with Rivet... or most defensemen in this league.

let him play 26 minutes a game and once playoffs come he will suck. He should be playing 15-17 minutes a game and he will be very good.
give him more and he will get tried and make bad plays.

i watched Rivet play last night he was ok, no terrible giveaways, he was caught napping on Vanvouvers overtime goal though. i didn't notice him to much out there though which is usually a good thing when your a d-man.

Rivet seems to be faster probably because he lost some weight because of his bout with pnemonia.
