No apologies necessary when this happens. I understand being hesitant to believe somebody on a message board.

But take my word for it. I would be SHOCKED if he wasn't on the Kings THIS YEAR. I know for a fact that he won't be returning to UM and, if nothing else, will make his debut with you guys in the fall.

Johnson # 78

Hopefully they let him have it, because my jersey came in and it looks sharp.

Kidding? Or is this real?

My humor is just totally dead today.

You know honestly I think Zizka could be decent in the new NHL...

Sorry if it was explained somewhere else, but what's the story behind #78? I want to get a JMFJ jersey myself, and was assuming he'd pick a number with a 3 in it. Is it because it's the opposite of Crosby's #87?

My guess was that it is the opposite of Crosby's, but someone said that he chose it because he begins his career in: 07-08. Who knows?

It is a combination of factors.

He wants a unique number that is very rare. 78 is.

The Crosby number in reverse is the other factor.

He also likes the "look" of the number.

#78 was my HS football number.

Smart decision by a smart man.

Are you KIDDING me? This is huge. I can't wait to see him!

I guess I'll have to definitely tune in to watch the last few Kings games. I hope Kopitar's back by then too.

His man love for Crosby is amazing. Chosing a number simply because its Crosby's number flipped around is, well...eh I suppose.

I like the 07-08 story better

I can't figure out why does the thought of JMFJ in a Kings' uni make me all warm & fuzzy?!

He is JMFJ though and Crosby should have based HIS number off Jacks. At least, that is how he is portrayed.

Jack the ripper, not Jack the follower...

He can still be Jack the Ripper, since he "ripped" off 87-78. I like the number though, and he can make it his own. There are no other famous 78's in hockey, as far as I know. There's the reverse 87. There's the starting his career in 07-08. And, you can also look at it as him trying to be one better than Ray Bourque, as if that's possible.

Anyways, off topic, I just moved out here to L.A. from Philly, and while yes, I'll always be a Flyers fan, I wanted to have a team I could follow out here. Now, I easily could have taken the easy way out, and went with the front runner, in Anaheim, but I chose to follow your Kings. I want to get in on the ground floor, so to speak. So, is that cool with you guys? I know I don't need permission, but I want to wear my #78 jersey with pride.

why would you want to be a quack?

Kings will be a good team in the next few years...you made the more logical, long term choice.

While they were both at Shattucks, and playing baseball together, someone threw at Sid, and Johnson charged the mound.

It is funny, because back home Jack and I have been best friends since we were little kids, but in Minnesota Crosby was his closest friend. I had lunch with Jack and Sid one time, but that was it.

Strange how his 2 best friends don't even know each other... so goes the life of an athlete.

For the record, Sid and Jack discussed going with reverse numbers in the NHL when they were teammates at Shattuck. Jack said he would only do it if he liked the number it ended up as, and he said he genuinely likes 78.

I can't watch most Kings games, but Jack sent me a text message the other day saying he saw a # 73 in your lineup. Is this true? He watches every Kings game when he isn't playing (his house has the NHL package, of course) and says he has seen it 2 or 3 times.

If that is true, he may be in luck with # 78. The second he announces he will be leaving UM, I will take a picture of the jersey and show it to you. It looks really good on that Kings jersey with his name.

73 is John Zeiler. Most likely it's only his training camp number and who knows he may get a new number.

78 is a fly number.

Just figured Jack to be more of an individualist. Maybe Jack can coax Sidney over to LA?

At the beginning of this thread, I said that Johnson got robbed a few times on close plays.

This was one of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyHT9m1YNRg

Would have been an amazing goal, but the moves alone show you a lot. The man is a speeding freight train. He said he wants a big hit his first NHL game... you guys better watch for his debut in 2 weeks.
