GDT: Detroit Red Wings @ Nashville Predators, 8 PM ET

Man, we're slipping on the Wings board. This is a match up of the NHL's two top teams.

Here's the NHL.com preview.

Freep updates.

Wish we had all our guys. Cleary, Franzen, Zetterberg, Bertuzzi and Markov are all still out.

For the Preds, I think Sullivan, Forsberg, Nichols, and Hartnell are still out.

Ozzie starts tonight. Dom is in net tomorrow at the Joe.

Go Wings!

Huge game tonight and tomorrow night. We need to win at least one of them in regulation, hopefully both though. Course it would help if we had the entire lineup healthy, but oh well.

Could be a fun game, but I don't like our chances.
As long as it doesn't get embarrasing out there, it's ok.
No 6-2 loss, please.

Hoping for a good game - with Preds winning. No OT this time! Need to win at least one of the back to backs.

I just wonder if the team that beat nashville will show up or will it be the team that lost to philly and boston

A big four points up for grabs coming up...I think this home and home will determine #1 and the Central Division championship. 3 points back with a game in hand...that loss to Boston could really hurt the Wings going forward. They need to beat those non-playoff teams on their remaining schedule...especially at home and with a day's rest. A split won't knock the Wings out of the hunt for #1 but it won't help. The ideal scenario would be winning both games in regulation...they can take over first still with that game in hand. Can't give away any cheap points to the Preds. It's one thing to give up a point to the Kings on Friday...can't give points to a team you're chasing.

If one of the two teams manages to take both back to back games, they most likely will win the division and conference. A lot of missing players tonight for both teams. If any players come back tomorrow, it will be a huge advantage for their respective team. I don't care what anybody says, I want home ice advantage throughout the entire playoffs (the Eastern Conference is scary this year). I'm gonna say a 4-3 win tonight.

Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Samuelsson was the 1st last game, but they had a pretty poopish game... dunno if there'll be any adjustment tonight.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure I like the news, but I suppose we have to get used to having him around. Not that Mason is a cakewalk....

Why is Babcock downplaying those games vs the Preds? I really can't figure it out, but he does not want to play Hasek vs them. Is this some kind of putting the pressure on Trotz or is he protecting Hasek from the Preds running him and risking an injury?

I think Babs mentioned the recent injury to Dom's thigh as a reason to not play him in back-to-back games... even important ones. With the injuries, maybe the Wings are just happy to know they're in the playoffs and then they take it from there. It never is easy, and as we know finishing first and drawing an 8 seed hasn't helped us much...

But he has used Hasek almost every time for those "safe" games and Osgood and MacDonald for those more difficult ones. If I remember right.

I honestly don't see him "downplaying" these games at all. He wants Ozzie to get more starts, and with the thigh injury that Dom had, it's just not smart to risk it getting injured again. I'd rather him be healthy for the playoff run, and getting Ozzie a few more starts isn't going to hurt either. Have to make sure both guys are ready to go, never know what injuries can happen.

Hasek has played 2 of the games against the Preds also.

11/10: W - NSH 0 at DET 3 (W: Hasek, L: Vokoun)
11/25: L - DET 2 at NSH 6 (W: Mason, L: MacDonald)
01/17: W - NSH 3 at DET 5 (W: Hasek, L: Mason)
02/24: OTL - DET 3 at NSH 4 (W: Vokoun, L: Osgood)
03/06: W - NSH 3 at DET 4 (W: Osgood, L: Vokoun)

Has Hasek played vs the Preds on the rode?
Obviously he can play him tonight and Osgood tomorrow, but he chooses to play Hasek tomorrow. If I remember right Bowman always played Hasek in the difficult games and Legace is safe ones.

I'm wondering if the new Bertuzzi'd Wings will face off against the Forsberg enhanced Preds at all.

Both teams are beat up with the Wings coming off a loss to...rather not say. Anyway, we beat them last time, let's make it 2 in a row.

GO WINGS!!!
