Personally, I'd make him (Latendresse) pay his dues next year in Hamilton, if he can get 30+goals there, he will be ready, mature and confident to be a real top 6 player without "if" and "but" for the 2008-2009 season.
Well, this is an interesting idea. We could keep our new, youthful core TOGETHER.......in Hamilton!
What an inspiration!!
Higgins? Not really ready, only has 3 goals more than Lats despite LOADS of time with Koivu and on the PP.
Komisarek? Needs to work on his offensive game. Personally, I'd make him pay his dues next year in the AHL. If he can get 60+ points there, he will finally be ready, mature and confident to be a real top 3 D in the NHL in 2008-2009 without any ifs or buts.
Plekanec? Needs a chance to play somewhere where he can be the LEADER and CAPTAIN. Why continue playing in the big show for a weak team, when he can dominate in the AHL? Send him down, and let's hope for 100 points next year.
Kostitsyn? Obviously needs one more year to improve his consistency.
Lapierre? Needs to improve his defensive coverage down low in his own zone and also to pass more. A stint in the AHL should do wonders for him.
Anyway, the problem will be how to find enough guys to play in the NHL, what with the above 5 guys, plus Halak, Price, Grabovsky, little Kostitsyn, Milroy, O'Byrne and others not ready yet.
We could keep Niinimaa, Downey, Murray, Aebischer in the NHL and get a few more of those types to tide us over until the kids are ready in a year or two.
Hmmmm.... dammit, the problem is Markov. He is going to get mighty frustrated in Montreal playing for a lifeless, energy-less team that loses every night. Especially after taking his Canadian citizenship, giving up his chance at free agency to re-sign with the club that means so much to him. Oh, what the heck, send him to Hamilton, too. He'll be with his buddies, they'll gain a lot of success and they'll have a blast!
