Concern about Tavares

I know he's only 16 and its no big deal right now but a little shocking to me that a 72 goal scorer - who scored tem more than the next closest - isnt anywhere to be seen on certain league leading lists in the OHL. On the game winning goals, insurance goal and first goals he isnt even on the top 20 on either list in the OHL. On PP goals he's first with 34. He also had 6 shorties. But you'd think he'd have racked up more game winners or bigger clutch goals.

Does this concern anyone else? That just jumped right out at me. Is Tavares the type of guy that rackes up a bunch of points. Crosby scores a lot, and at the right time. Tavares doesnt seem to.

This must be a joke, the man is 16!!!

Considering his draft egebility year, he should be a rookie next year like Crosby did.

Even with his 40 goals on special teams, he had 30 even-strength goals, which is more than all but 41 players had for their total goal output for the season. Adam Perry, on the other hand, was second in PP goals with 30, and he had only 15 at even strength, making him a pure power-play specialist. Patrick Kane had 22 goals on the power play and four shorties, meaning an impressive 36 of his goals were scored at even strength. Neither Tavares nor Kane are guys who pad their stats just by scoring with a man advantage.

He's 16 but already looks like a 25 yr old ,,,he's stuck in the OHL for 2 more years--but the time he is finished his draft year in the spring of 2009 he willbe an unstoppable MAN playing with liitle boys--by then he'll break every record for scoring points in a season ever done in Jr. hockey--and this poster is qubbling about him as a 16 yr old as not scoring GWG goals=who cares?--when he'll score hat-tricks galore by the time he's finished with Jrs. =his very awesomeness in burying teams with an offensive onslaught will psychologically defeat teams even before they drop the puck...Iwould not quibble with a guy destined for that kind of greatness...

And so it begins.... the pidgeon-hole arguements to run down a talented boy who isn't yet mature in any way but has shown to be an immensely talented hockey player.

he may not score the big goals right now but at least you know he loves the game and gives it all hes got, unlike daigle. Remember the emotion this kid showed after being cut from the wjc team. compared to daigles "no one remembers number 2" bad comparison at this point i think.

Bingo. Oshawa has a few good young players, and they'll be better in the next year or two, but a powerhouse they ain't.

Look for the 'shwa to add some rental players for next season as they are in the running to host the Memorial Cup.

I'd like to see Tavares play next year in the dub to see how well he does in a tighter checking league. I know this is impossible, but I bet he'd win the scoring race by a mile!!

his team right now isnt the greatest. Its hard to have more GWG then say Kane, when your team is below .500 and Kanes is above...

the kid is 16 and scored 72 goals more then Gretzky. The only thing I would worry about is the team that gets him in the NHL draft. Pray that it isn't a divisional rival.

EDIT: If he came to Toronto, and Crosby went to Montreal that would awesome. The TOR-MON rivalry would be pushed to new heights. would be really fun to watch.
