Morozov Contract Status for 07/08?

Is A. Morozov signed with Ak Bars for next year or is he available? I can't read Russian!

He will be re-signed by the Penguins and score 60+ goals with Crosby and Milan Kraft.

On a serious note, I don't know if he's signed through next season but even if he isn't the chances of a return to the NHL are very slim. He is looking for $3 million+ and there's no team that is going to give that to him. Also, he's a superstar in Russia when he's only an average player at best over here. Just makes no sense for him unless someone is stupid enough to give him a boatload of cash.

do the pens keep his rights in the off season?

he will be 30 and 3 years removed from the NHL

I thought the rules changed about european players heading back to europe and how long the nhl kept their rights

His contract with Ak Bars runs through to the end of the 2008-2009 season.

He was an unrestricted free agent last offseason.

Slitty would know better than I would, but I'm pretty sure it was at least rumored that he had an out clause in his RSL contract.

Some GM is going to bite and give him $3 million.

Just hope it is not the GM of your favorite team.

I highly doubt it. The Rangers were after him last year and if Sather didn't give him $3million then it's hopeless for him.

According to Morozov, the offer was $3.5 million!

He was married before he headed to Russia and if I remember right she might've had his first child before he left.

No one's doubted that Morozov ever had the talent, just that he'd ever put it together. He was head to head with Malkin last year and this year he's putting up even better numbers, while Malkin's having an awesome year with the Penguins. I don't understand how anyone can hate the guys still, but then again I never understood the hate in the first place.

I thought that's just what he was asking.

If he was really offered that then I can't understand why he would turn that down. Superstar or not over in mother Russia, that's a pretty good paycheck.

He was starting to pick it up before the lockout, and his 80+ RSL points is incredible. I'd like to see him back in the NHL. He's always had the skills, maybe things would work well for him in Pittsburgh now that they have two fantastic centermen.

The Pens will never bring him back for the kind of money he's asking. Morozov is the exact kind of player that causes a team to screw up their cap and have little in return for it. If the Pens were serious about throwing 3.5 out on a Russian winger I'd rather they spend the extra one mil and try to trade for Kovalev. Morozov might not be a bad thing for a desperate team like the Coyotes to give a 1 year tryout to for his demands, but any serious contending team would be hard pressed to gamble that large of a contract on a player who historically plays terrible unless he's on a line with Mario Lemieux or playing against the Devils.

Taxes.

With another year under his belt in the RSL, another dominating season, with a sweet paycheck, I think it's gotta be itching him to come back to the NHL. Especially since he outplayed pretty much anyone not named Jagr in the RSL in the lockout season.

Morozov is on contract with AK BARS until April 2009, but if he gets an offer from NHL, he can go.

Surprisingly, but at the age of 30 he's progressing a lot. He is performing much better than Lecavalier or Heatley did when playing for AK BARS during lockout season. Morozov is a man to build a line around. He's a great passer and only needs guys around who can score

Hahaha. He was the complete opposite in the NHL. He had to have Mario bank pucks off of him into the net to be a "consistant" scorer.

Players change though. Orszagh didnt play well for the Islanders in the late 90's, went to Europe, became a scoring champ in Sweden and came back to the NHL.

Im not saying it is the same for Morozov but a return to Europe can help a player.

I'd be intrested to see Morozov back on a line with Malkin...keep in mind he was the only Russian on the pens roster and came over at 18...probably a bit immature and in shadow of Lemieux, Kovalev, Lang, Straka, etc. You could make the same argument with Naslund when Francis, Stevens, etc were in Pitt. He can't be any worse than Nils "****ing" ekman. The big ? is the price though...probably too expensive to take a gamble on.

He was 20 when he came over, not 18...and even though Kasparaitis is from Lithuania, he grew up under the Soviet system, playing for Soviet teams.....

Anyone think he can be productive in the new NHL?

If so, Toronto will be very interested. JFJ is notorious for going after the low risk high reward type deals, and their number 1 priority will be looking for a winger to play shotgun with Sundin. JFJ will be at the World Championships so that will be another chance to scout him.

And Morozov did string together some decent seasons in the OLD NHL.
