Too much money for a team that is at least 3-4 years away from taking a serious run deep into the playoffs.

I don't see the need to pay top dollar for a premiere defencemen, who won't pay dividends by the time his contract is up.

On the other hand, it would be nice if the Oilers had an intelligent, mature defencemen to help educate and lead the youngsters....

a signed Redden will ofcourse cost us more then the package above. I was just responding to the poster who said we dont have enough to make an offer for him. I would do Greene+1st for an years worth of service and a chance to sign afterwards for him in a hearbeat.

I dont think such things exist anymore. what will we have in 3-4 years? a mature schremp, Gilbert, Nillson? there is no guarentee we'll have even one of those players in our lineup by then. we pick up Jagr and Redden in the offseason and we'll be contenders in an instance.

Are you kidding me??? 3-4 years??? I mean maybe you're right that they won't take a deep run in the playoffs until then, but does that mean they don't try to build a contender??? No. If you can bring in Redden, combined with bringing in a top offensive player off the free agent market, maybe deal a centre for another d-man, and bring in another guy like Hartnell we would be talking about this team being a top contender heading into next season. I know that's a lot to do, but I guarentee 3 of the 4 things I mentioned doing are things that Lowe will be hard after this summer.

It would certainly be nice to see Hemsky and Jagr on the powerplay.

redden makes more the that already and wont be getting a paycut after next year. open market could get him close to 7M if he has a good year.

I doubt Jagr is now going anywhere. He's almost single handedly brought the Rangers back into the playoffs.

I'd do it but I really don't think it's a possibility.

If by Jagr you mean Lundqvist has single handedly brought the rangers back into the playoffs, than yeah your right. In the rangers 5 game winning streak, he has only let in 3 goals, the guy is playing as a man obsessed.
