No plaques or trophies, please

My husband coaches a midget house league team, and this year a couple players turned eighteen and have come to the end of their minor hockey careers. We thought it would be nice to give them something to mark this milestone but are having a hard time coming up with a unique yet inexpensive gift. We've considered hats, t-shirts, or maybe a McFarlane figure, but would like something really original. Any suggestions? (No plaques or trophies, please.) Oh, and did I mention we need this by next week?

flasks!....sure, they may be underage, but they're still a 'cool' inexpensive gift...or gift certificates...somewhere...being that it's also their last minor hockey season...you could get togehter with other coaches in the league, and have some sort of tribute to them, and all others that are finishing their minor hockey careers - be it via newspaper, or at a year end banquet....

In my last year of minor hockey, all graduating players were pictured in the local paper, and pictures of each player from when they began hockey, to when they finished were sort of put into a slide show at the year end banquet, and that was REALLY cool - we were all given a copy of it too, which was even better

You could get the players bag tags for when they go to a different team or league they can have a name tag for there bag. Maybe you could make a card or put a picture of the team on a cake or something. There are so many possiblitiies that I could not think of a single thing that could be used as unique and original.

How about you grab a couple of the team's jerseys and have the whole team sign it. Give it to them as something to keep to remember everyone by. Kinda like a yearbook.

how about working with the parents for a project. With the accumulated patches and what not there should be enough to put together a small commerorative display for each of them. Much like a medal/commendation display case.

these are some great ideas- autographed pictures, jerseys, pucks or sticks would all be worthwhile. maybe a website dedicated to the players with photos etc?

I like TBLfan's idea. Also, you could frame their jerseys and include a picture of them/the team inside the frame. It might be a little expensive, but definetly worth the price. For some, this might be the last time they play hockey. Remember this is the best time of their lives; make it memorable.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! We ended up choosing hats. Not the most original idea, but the ones we found were half red and half white, so they were ideal for the team to sign. Don't know if the guys will ever wear them again, but they seemed to appreciate them the night of our wind-up.
