Bring back Don Edwards!

The Canes let goaltending consultant Don Edwards go today when they fired Paul Maurice. I've been very impressed with his work with Kevin Weekes the last couple of years. He's turned an inconsistant, but talented goalie into a legitimate No 1. Besides, I'm sick of Corsi. :p

Didn't Corsi get a new deal this summer just like Ruff?

What in particular about Corsi upsets you?

Is Allaire having a terrible year? Did he suddenly get stupid?

The lack of progress in developing our goalies. They're still making the same mistakes; not playing the angles properly (too many goals on the short side), staying too deep in the crease, not getting their body in front of the puck to play shootins, giving up the 5-hole... It results in cheap goals at inopportune times that this team can't afford to give up. Biron should be a solid no 1 by now. Corsi is so accomodating trying to be a coach of all styles, that the fundamentals aren't stressed enough.

Allaire (Francois) isn't having a terrible year. Giguere isn't where one would like him, but Allaire had no control over the holdout or effect of the big contract. He's done a wonderful job with Gerber. I'd be very pleased if the Sabres had a .911 composite SA, which is also what the Canes have achieved under Edwards.

He got a promotion to full time goalie coach but I have no clue how long the deal is for.

Corsi has been a full time coach with the Sabres for less than 40 games. How can he be blamed for the lack of progress? Especially when the only goalie who hasn't progressed has been Biron. Noronen certainly has progressed, even with the past 3 games of crap.

Some goalies are more successful playing deep: Hasek and Cujo. You can't make a blanket statement saying that they are playing too deep.

Both goalies last night were not short side goals. They were weak goals.

Giving up the 5 hole? You are talking about results. Why are they giving up 5 hole goals?

As for shoot ins, a lot of times you are taught NOT to get your body in front of the shoot in, because you won't be able to control how the puck rebounds off you. You are usually taught how to hold your stick to prevent rebounds bouncing off you.

You haven't mentioned anything they are doing that's fundamentally wrong.

As for Allaire, Gerber and Giguere have the commonality of having a lower save percentage this year compared to last year. Noronen's save percentage has increased, where Biron's has fallen. If Allaire has no control over what goes on in Giguere's personal life, why should Corsi be expected to have control over everything in Biron's or Noronen's life?
