NIIIIICE... and for what it's worth that's been imortalized in section 314 at the RBC Center as well. A few people that sit near me regularly get a bit woried when they don't hear that at a game

Specifically TANABE SUCKS, it's part of our hockey vernacular and is morphing into "You pulled a Tanabe" - my son (Dman) coughing up the puck in his end.

Lately I have been replacing colorfull curse words with "ohhhh Tanabe...".

I really feel the more I yell, the better he plays. I was really ripping him at the bar Sunday when he scored.

What would you expect for Erik Cole?

The Habs would likely be ready to trade one of their 1st, Francis Bouillon (JR loves him and you would need to take some salary) and Kyle Chipchura.

I think this would be a solid offer. You will probably not like it so what would you ask?

Stillman - Staal - Cole
Ladd - Brind'Amour - Williams
Free Agent - Vasicek* - Walker/Whitney*
Adams - Free Agent - Larose

Kaberle - Commodore
Gleason - Wallin
Wesley - Tanabe

*Seidenberg/Hutchinson

Ward

* UFA's - Speculation

Another alternate third line option:

Actually CF, I think both Seidenberg and Hutch have another year on their contract, scary yet true... and bad news for Babchuk.

For Erik Cole, Montreal would likely have to ante up Mike Komisarek and Carolina would have to add a high round pick or a defensive prospect of Montreal's choice. No doubt he is an injury prone player, but he is a point per game player when he's healthy and brings a physical dimension that every team needs. Plus he's locked up for two more years at $3.5 million, which is a steal for a player of his caliber when he's clicking on all cylinders.

I know that price is high, but it's likely why a deal wouldn't get done. Erik Cole means more to Carolina than the price other teams would be willing to pay for him.

Wow. Didn't know that. I'm glad on the Seidenberg front, but hate it for Hutch. Seidenberg is prototypical depth defense and is a jack of all trades. Hutchinson is a player that other teams may covet for an offensive spark.

Babchuk has played his last game for the organization in my mind. I think he's toast. He'll bolt to the RSL or be traded.

That actually wouldn't be a bad package, although I'd want someone elses opinion because I'm a bit of a Chipchura fan.

Yeah I skipped right over the Bouillon part and went straight to Kyle. I am a fan of him as well but not at the price of Erik Cole.

Chipchura and the two 1st round pick then?

And then we trade you Bouillon for a pick since we need to clear salary in order to sign or UFA and RFA.

I made some changes to yours Caniacforever:

Stillman - Staal - Cole
Whitney* - Brind'Amour - Williams
Ladd - Free Agent - Walker*
Adams - Vasichek/Letowski - Larose

Kaberle - Commodore
Gleason - Wallin
Seidenberg - Free Agent/Tanabe*

*Hutchinson/Babchuk

Ward
Grahame

* UFA's - Speculation

Reasons for Change:
To keep Whitney here their gonna have to keep him as a Top 6. Unless he starts sucking, but in the beginning he remains as a Top 6 guy. Plus he'll get the 'A'. Letowski still has another year on his contract. So I'm thinking they will pencil him in as the 4th line center as he does provide good energy. He might actually get a scoring touch if he plays consistently, not one game here and there. Wesley is retiring after this year, which will open a spot up for Seidenberg in the Top 6 for defenseman. Tanabe I'm questioning on whether or not they resign him as why I put free agent there. I think they will re-sign him though.

Hutch and Bab's are just about gone. JR will probably keep one and I'd say its Hutch. I think Bab's made his bed and he's done.

Of course we've got to sign Whitney and Walker. If JR can get this done, then yeah, I don't see our offense changing this off season. The guys have the talent and can get it done next year. I say give them one more year and if they fail to make the playoffs next year then put players on the block, but not this off season.

Many good posts. My gut feeling is that we won't resign Walker, and we'll try but be unable to resign Whitney. I hope I'm wrong.

I know someone who swears that Tanabe will be resigned, and he's got some inside buzz. Even after the TB game. I can believe it. I also think we could resign Vasicek to a one-year deal and let him center line 3. Is it the right move - I don't know. But our organization could do that

With Wes and Hedican gone, getting a higher-tier D-man becomes very pressing IMO.

I'm worried about Stillman, he is getting a little long in the tooth and his recovery this year just hasn't happened.

I dont doubt for a second that they will re-sign Tanabe. They didn't do to him what they did to Anson, Hutch or Sieds so the thought of them giving him 2 or even 3 years doesn't shock me at all.

I wont like it but it wont shock me.

I really don't see a problem signing Tanabe to something reasonable. 600-900k or something like that. He sure doesn't deserve a raise. But that's pretty cheap for a 5-7 defenseman that has shown improvement, even if it took awhile.

If we can get him to 900K for a one or two year deal here again I wouldn't have much of a problem with it. Yeah he's a #6/7 guy, but he's also a good fit for the system here and can be used in more then just the 3rd pairing role... although I think we do have better options on the PP.

Tanabe will draw close to the $1.2 arbitration award he was awarded and Boston walked away from. He has shown that he can handle minutes at the NHL level and that helps his negotiation power. He has played in a Top 4 role for this team and has had a respectable showing. I think any hope of getting him for less than $1 million on a one way deal is wishful thinking.

Agree, Babchuk isn't coming back.
He will become RFA this summer and if he doesn't get a decent offer from another NHL team (i am sure JR won't try to keep him) he goes back to RSL.

The possibility that Babchuk and Lavi will work their personall issues out is even thinner than us getting into playoffs this year.

Will be there any available top d-men on the market this summer to acquire?

Less than a few hours after posting that, it seems that Tim Gleason is out with a broken finger, Andrew Ladd has caught whatever Scott Walker has and all are likely out for the game next evening. Anton Babchuk will likely dress.

Walker may not be back. It'd only be a day and a half or so when the Tampa game rolls around. Unless Aucoin/Bayda come up, he may have to dress Babchuk.

Which is no assurance he has to play him, mind you.

Very true. If he's dressed and doesn't play, that'll be the obvious end of him.

I think the organization is acting like a child in regards to Babchuk. Sure, he acted like a child refusing his assignment, but I mean come on. Play the guy or release him if you don't think you can't get anything for him. He's definitely better than Hutchinson and Tanabe.

Sounds like there has been a break on this front - he's to dress tonight.
