Hungary Defeats Sweden

Hungary 2, Sweden 1

Quote:
Team Hungary defeated Team Sweden for the first time in their hockey history. It is true that this was only a friendly game, and the guests didn't came with their best possible team, but without doubt this is a milestone success for the Hungarian ice hcokey.

yeah but didn't they get killed in the next game?

Hungary though isn't that bad, not as good as Slovenia but the Inter-Liga has really helped the clubs from Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia, though Croatia is no where near as good as the other two, we are too busy playing other sports

It would be nice if a Magyar player could ever make the NHL and PLAY a game. Szuper Levente didn't quite get the 2nd part of the equation

funny thing is a Croatian-born player in the NHL was seen before a Slovenian or Hungarian-born players

Goran Bezina played some matches for the Coyotes

With Kopitar and playing on home ice, I can't see anyone in this group upsetting the Slovenes. They should sail through quite easily.

Hungary finishing second wouldn't be a poor result. They will have to beat the Japanese, the Lithuanians, and the British which will all prove to be tough opponents for the Hungarians.

Well ethnically speaking....

...they have.

For a Hungarian born one - it may take a while. Maybe this kid is their best bet:

Janos Hari

There was one guy (Tone Gale) that was Slovenian-born and i think he played a regular NHL game for NY Rangers as a goaltender. 17min i think, but still .
Also another Slovenian-born hockey player (Rudi Hiti) played an exebition game for Chicago Blackhawks against Dallas, but i think he was hit in the jaw with the puck and broke it. Then went home. Later in his career he got an invitation for a 3y deal by Los Angeles Sharks (then playing in WHA i think), but he turned them down as at the time Olimpija Ljubljana was the powerhouse of Slovenian hockey and was able to offer him a better 2y deal.
Gorazd Hiti also was given an offer by Clevland (WHA), but unfourtonalty he had to refuse as at the time he had to go to the army service (JNA).
All players played in the 70s if i am not mistaken.

Here are the rosters for all teams. I think every team except Slovenia and Romania has allready set their rosters. Thats why there isnt Kopitar in the Slo team. The players wherent picked yet by Sator. I hope he will also call Jan Mursak from OHL (80pts in 62games, 4th best rookie).

Why dont we make a special new thread about WC DivI? Where is the right place for it. Central Europe, International Tournaments or World Hockey ?

Slovenia lost an exebition game against Austria in Ljubljana. 4:2 was the score. All in total, combined for two lines + 1st goalie of best players didnt play for the Slovenians. And i think Austria wasnt in their best line as well.
Next week SLO will play another (and last) exebition game before the WC DivI against Belarus (in Ljubljana).

Yesterday Slovenia played the last exebition game before WC DivI. They played against Belarus and where up 2:0 in the 54min and then i guess bad stamina kicked in for the Slovenians. In last 6min Belarus scored 5 goals and won the game 2:5.

I will open a special topic for the WC DivI in "International tournaments" for anyone who is interested .

Slovenia should win this tournament easily.

Hungary got spanked by Norway 6 to 1 in an exhibition match, so a second place finish would be a very good result for the Hungarians.

Slovenia won today...and they should get promotion easily, too much firepower. I also believe that Slovenia have a chance to stay in the World Group when they get there, especially when Mursak joins the team

Moreover hungarian-sounded name doesnt means that an owner has hungarian origin. Those guys dont have to have nothing common with hungaria.i never noticed any of those guys speakin hungarian at all or having hungarian accent or something like that.

Nagy had an interview in the Hungarian sport tv when he was on the Slovak team, IN HUNGARIAN! Satan told the Hungarian reporter, that they (they:the team) call Nagy "Hungarian".

Országh, Pálffy, Mészáros are Hungarian names, I'm pretty sure they have Hungarian origin, maybe they don't speak Hungarian anymore, maybe they parents or grandparents don't either, but a cuple of hundred years ago their families were Hungarian speaking Hungarians.
