Olli Jokinen on the Block- GET HIM

Hey guys just read on fourthperiod that he may be on the block.

Hes 25 years old, his big, strong, and a would be a perfect number one center for us. This way koivu could become number 2. This guys still has tons of potential and skill, and could very easily become a superstar one day. I dunno if he has a mean streak, but with his size + skill, im sure he could be a gainey guy.

Thoughts?

This is a Bruce Garrioch rumor. Normally we would advise that you take it with a grain of salt, but considering the man who came up with the rumour, I would suggest that you take this with a LARGE fry, a LARGE burger, and FOUR TONS of salt.

Oh, and he wouldn't be knocking Saku down to #2. Not a chance in hell of that happening at all. He's a good player, though.

I'd love to pick up Olli Jokinen!!!

He would be a great fixture in Montreal, and furthermore, Florida may like a guy like Rivet (who is IMO one of our expendable Defencemen...) As he elevated Bouwmeester's game in the WC's in the summer. Personally I definately say fire the trigger to land Olli... He'd also probably love being on a team with Country hero Koivu!!!

Love to see him play for the Habs... but I can't see Florida trading him to an Eastern Conf. team.

I can. Its not like they are anywhere close to being a contender for anything, so its not like they will be risking hurting their playoff chances in the next 3 or 4 years by playing against him 2 or 3 times a year.

I can't see Florida trading him to any team in the Western Conference either.

Yes, this was a Garrioch rumor, and in return for Olli you need to provide a "good, young player". Which good young player would you trade for him?

I think we need to trade more than that, Panthers have trouble scoring goals why would they trade a prospects and a 2nd rounder for they only scorer(with Kozlov...)

Maybe something like Zednik and Milroy/Balej?

Well, I see NO purpose in trading Jokinen. He's young and produces. If they want to get younger... or a player that produces more?

I highly doubt he's on the market.

Florida wants to build a young team and they already are the youngest in the NHL. So why trade a 25-year-old Jokinen? Is he too mature?

I'd LOVE to get him... but forget about it. I doubt Florida would trade him.

Maybe just take out the 2nd rounder and it would be fair value wise... but no need for both teams to do that!

Anyone think Hossa and Markov would get him?

Sure, Hossa and Markov would land Olli Jokinen Montreal but I think that is severe overpaying. Hossa and high pick would do the trick or rather Ribeiro and pick. Ribs is younger than Smashin' Pumpkinhead, so he would fit the mold. Jokinen has been playing great lately and couple of seasons now but I'm not still too confident for him being an elite center PF in a mold of Thornton or Lindros.

the goal scoring would be nice and all but it all comes down to the cost..
we couldve got nolan from san jose last year if we were willing to give up as much as TO did.. is it worth it both fiscally and on a short term and long term basis for the club? thats what it all boils down to with any trade but especially with a salary dump kinda trade as im assuming this one would be

Jokinen would be a great fit in Montreal. He is just entering his prime...he is big, he can skate, he can score, he plays the PK(very well I might add) and is not a selfish player. Not sure what kind of cash he is makin but I can't imagine he would be too expensive in that regard.

As for what we could offer...possibly Ribeiro and a pick...Jokinen could come in and play with Zednik...Koivu/Jokinen 1-2 punch at center sounds good to me.

But as much as this trade would be nice, I really don't see Florida trading him to the Canadiens considering if the Panthers are to fight for a playoff spot it would most likely be with us. But if the Panthers continue to lose then maybe it would just have to be the right deal. I would take Oli over Ribs any day!

No Way!!! In my opinion Bulis is worth Jokinen straight-up.

Jokinen may score some more goals, but Bulis is way better in his own end, so I would never do this deal. Montreal is a defence first team, so Bulis is the better player of the two to fill our needs.

Well as Urquhart might be 3-4 years away from being a 1st or 2nd line center. And the other 4 are vertically challenged, I would think that Jokinen could fill the one void we seem to have throughout all our prospects. With Hainsey/Komo/Archer/Beauchemein/Korniev we should be ok defensively. We have a plethora of wingers in the minors. We just don't have the big stud center.

As none of our wingers are that big either, we need a big center that could compliment the speedy wingers we have in the system. In that way you could take some of the pressure off Koivu. It doesn't matter who is No. 1 or 2. If next year Koivu's line has Ryder and Bulis and Jokinen is flanked by Zednik and Balej, who cares which is labelled the first line.

I believe that if the habs are to move forward next year, they can't get much better with two small centers in Koivu and Ribeiro. Koivu is the heart and soul of the team so you move Ribeiro.

He is obviously not enough for Jokinen so it comes down to what Florida wants on top of Ribs. If it is one of Markov/Komo/Hainsey the answer is no. If it is one of the second tier forwards ie: Plekanec/Milroy or possibly Hossa my answer would be yes.
