Mac T leaving to be a GM???

I didn't catch what team, but on the Hotstove tonight, MacT was mentioned as a potential GM candidate. I hope that doesn't mean, if it's true, Bucky will be the new coach. If MacT does leave, who do you guys see as being coach of the Oilers?

unless I missed it, the only thing that I personally heard about MacT was that he could be the coach for team canada.

If he did leave, the Oiler's wouldn't have to payout his contract would they?

Replace MacT with a PROPER coach not some ex-player.

That is how rumours get started That would be an interesting shake up for the team though. I like MacT a lot but this team does need a lot of change. Put me down for a coach that was not a former Oiler. We have had a enough of that, time to try something new. Having said all of that I seriously doubt MacT is going anywhere.

Of course MacT was an ex-player, but I think you mean an experienced coach.

I would think Huddy be the Guy. He's done a great job over the years on the backend. I could see Bucky being an Assistant.

I'd like to see a completely new regime with the old boys club all out and the new HC bringing his own people in.

Agreed but if a new coach did come in I would be happy if they at least got rid of Simpson and definitely did not make Bucky an assistant that would be big step in the wrong direction IMO. I am okay with Huddy staying but if they wanted to wipe the slate clean that is fine too.

The recent Stanley Cup run should factor, but I don't know of many franchises that would endure the up and down streakiness and overall mediocrity of the Oilers during the course of MacT's run. The Budgetary concerns of the pre-lockout NHL are a factor, but does that account for streakiness?

I don't think the Oilers would risk being worse off with a different coach.

I'd give Ward a shot. Experience as a head coach at the pro level IMO is a must.

I got excited when I read the title of this thread, until I realized that not even Charles Wang would hire MacT as his GM.

Realistically (and a little optimistically), I'd like to see a proven PP specialist to replace Simpson or at least come run our PP, and some proven scouts that are currently with teams like DET, NJ, etc; that draft well all the time. Use some of that playoff money to bring in a few people who you are absolutely certain know what they're doing.

I made a thread before the season started, and I was drunk, and suggested firing Mac T and hiring Andy Murray. Looks like a good idea now imo Although, I'd give Mac T another shot personally.

I dunno about Quinn.... something about him and edm doesn't make much sense. I'd give it a shot mind you ... but doesn't feel right does it?

No thx to Ward. Didn't impress me much with the RR's.

How about pulled Hunter from London. He's done a good job over there. Would be a fantasic Assistant in the least.

Agreed I don't even see anything worthy of a discussion here unless I somehow missed everything the title describes.

I'd be curious to see how Pat Burns would make out. However if MacT leaves, and I don't think he will, I still think KLowe will go to one of the former Oilers.

The thread should be deleted. It was for coach of Team Canada. The discussions ran together and the original poster obviously misunderstood.

Anyone else kind of funny that this thread is (sort of) about MacTavish being a candidate to head coach Team Canada, while Oilers fans come in and slag on how bad of a coach he is?

Yeah Hunter worked wonders with Schremp's defense didn't he??? He seems to have a knack of doing very well with offensive players though. Perry, Schremp, Bolland, Kostytsin, Kane, Gagner, etc.

As for Ward, I still maintain that if not for his coaching, Mac-T would never have put Stoll on the point. Hell he'd probably still have Petersen on the point over him if not for Ward showing him the light.

I'd like to have one owner like the guy who owns Rexall to take over. We can then not have such tight budget concerns every year. Hopefully he would not be a Charles Wang or Bill Wirtz type.

Kevin Constantine for coach!

Why? What has he done in the past, say... 10 years?

can you tell me how exactly has New Jersey drafted soo well all the time ? just currious, especially since 2000. As well since 2000 how the hell has the Wings drafting been better than the Oilers ?
