GDT: Edmonton Oilers vs Chicago Blackhawks - April 1

I thought someone should create a GDT.

Time: 1:00pm MT
TV: Sportsnet
Radio: 630 CHED

Injuries
Edmonton: Jarret Stoll (Concussion), Ethan Moreau (Shoulder), Steve Staios (Knee), Jan Hejda (Shoulder), Daniel Tjarnqvist (Hernia), Mathieu Roy (Concussion), Petr Nedved (Knee)
Chicago: Jim Vandermeer (Ankle), James Wisniewski (Knee), Michal Handzus (Knee)

From NHL.com:

The Chicago Blackhawks' lengthy losing streak and a scoreless drought may have been weighing on Martin Havlat's mind recently. Now that both are over, he'll try to help his team record its most points in four seasons.

Havlat and the Blackhawks host the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday in the final meeting between two last-place teams.

Chicago (28-40-9) has 65 points, matching its total from last season. With one more point in their final five games, the Blackhawks would have their highest total since posting 79 in 2002-03. They had dropped six straight entering Friday's contest, scoring only nine goals in that span, before beating the Columbus 3-1.

Havlat scored the go-ahead goal and added and assist. He leads the team with 25 goals and 56 points

"It's been pretty tough not to think about," said Havlat, who has a goal in each of his last three meetings with the Oilers. "I've never had that many games before (without a goal). I'm just happy I got that one tonight."

Chicago coach Denis Savard was also happy to see his top offensive performer get back on track.

"He cares a lot, but I told him he can only do so much," said Savard, whose team is concluding a six-game homestand and will play three of its final four games on the road. "I told him, 'Obviously, you're a big piece of our puzzle and our best player, but you can't do it alone. You need help from everybody."'

Defenseman Brent Seabrook provided some of that help Friday with three assists, one short of a career high. Backup goaltender Patrick Lalime stopped 31 shots, but struggling Nikolai Khabibulin could be back in goal for this game. Khabibulin is 0-5-0 with a 3.97 goals-against average in his last five starts, but is 3-1-1 with a 2.12 GAA in his last six meetings against the Oilers.

Edmonton (31-40-7) has won two of three meetings from Chicago this season, including a 2-1 victory in their most recent matchup on Feb. 9, but has done very little winning since.

With a 5-2 loss to St. Louis on Thursday, the Oilers have dropped three in a row and 15 of 16. They have been outscored 60-20 during that stretch.

Ales Hemsky and Mathieu Roy scored late in the first period Thursday to even the score at 2-2, but the Oilers allowed three unanswered and were outshot 28-8 over the final two periods.

"A game like that is an indication of where we are at right now, an inability to withstand the pressure that they had," said Oilers coach Craig MacTavish, whose team failed to make the playoffs after a run to the Stanley Cup finals last season. "Everyone had a hand in it and it was pretty disappointing."

The Oilers have scored only eight goals while losing a season-high six straight on the road. Edmonton will end its season with two games at Minnesota and one at Calgary.

No points guys. That's all I care about. No points. I don't care if Stortini has to hurt Hemsky in the warmup to do it.

The sun says that JFJ is sitting this one out as a healthy scratch. So unless another forward is coming back from injury, my math has us playing 1 forward short today if this is true.

They recalled Syvret, I think I'll go with 7 defensemen today.. That's my guess anyways.

Sounds like Roy was going to be out though from tsn.ca

Couldn't load the icechips to check it out though, the page wouldn't load.

I think Chicago can take us. They have a game in hand too

That is assuming that Roy is playing

The question is, are the oilers a better team playing with JFJ, or without him and 1 man down....

Good point, I missed what happened to him last game?

Edit: If Roy is out, maybe Moreau's back, oh please that would be great.

He was hit in the chin with a puck, and was suffering from what was throught to be some minor post concussion symptoms because of it...

Hemsky / Lupul / Torres / Horcoff / Reasoner / Pouliot / Winchester / Pisani / Stortini / Petersen / Thoresen / Sykora

Yeah, they play Detroit 2x, Nashville, and Dallas. Doesn't matter if they have 10 games in hand against teams like that - they'll get crushed. They are all fighting for playoff positioning too - they're not cruising into the playoffs.

This game can make the difference of whether we draft 5th or 7th. GO HAWKS!!!!! I can't watch...

Well I haven't looked at every teams schedule. What does the Kings schedule look like?

And anything can happen. Maybe both games go to OT

Sun April 1 @ San Jose Sharks 3:00 p.m. NBC
Tue April 3 @ Vancouver Canucks 7:00 p.m. Prime
Thu April 5 @ Phoenix Coyotes 7:00 p.m. FSN West
Sat April 7 vs Phoenix Coyotes 1:00 p.m. FSN West

Now this gives me some confidence, i think they could catch and pass the Oilers.

Go KINGS!!!

Apr. 3 Tue 7:00PM St. Louis
Apr. 5 Thu 7:00PM Los Angeles
Apr. 7 Sat 1:00PM @ Los Angeles
Apr. 8 Sun 2:00PM Vancouver

Phoenix doesn't look too tough.

Tue Apr 3, 2007 HOME Panthers 7:00 PM ET
Wed Apr 4, 2007 AWAY Thrashers 7:00 PM ET
Sat Apr 7, 2007 HOME Sabres 1:00 PM ET

Washington, imo, is not catching the Oilers

He probably won't play any of the last three, one if any.

Kinda erks me that they're starting him against the one team we have a shot at beating. Today is the most important game on our remaining schedule.. We must lose today to have a shot at the top 5 - barring some sort of miracle 4 game win streak by WAS LA CHI.

Nutty pass by Horc.

Is it a good thing or a bad thing that Gilbert is BY FAR our best puck moving defenceman?

Come on boys, lets send these fans home happy.

Side note: Hemsky is insane lately. What a star.

It's a shame we have nobody to play with him. Hopefully in the off-season we can pick up a scorer who can still produce against tough opposition.
