Try these numbers on for size

Quote from Canoe sports today..on the Blue Jays page under News and Notes:

Definition of a desperate trade: Joffrey Lupul has 28 points for the Edmonton Oilers. Chris Pronger is a plus-28 in Anaheim . Lupul, for the record, is tied in scoring with Mike Commodore ... Truth in numbers: Fernando Pisani has 14 goals this season in Edmonton which matches the number he scored in last year's playoffs .

Not to flog a dead horse, but the Pisani numbers really hit home. And Lupul's 28 points. Wasn't he to score that many goals. We were expecting 80+ points.

Can we have a do-over?

Who's we??

Even if Lupes scores 30, is he really capable of putting up 50 assists? Forget this year, but ever?

Fernie missed some games and IMO wasn't exactly a huge disappointment this year. He still did everything else that was demanded of him. I expected at least 20, but the team sucked this year, plain and simple. Essentially all the vets underachieved.

The Commodore thing really is a slap in the face though.

People here always have a little too high of expectations. There was very little chance that Pisani could put up the same results as last year playoffs.

Guess Lowe should have thought of that then before giving him his new contract.

28 points for Lupul??? Yikes, one has to wonder why the dramatic drop in production??? Coaching influence, confidence to the crapper, didn't want to come here??? No Marchant???

Exactly how many goals were you expecting out of him?

He obviously wasn't going to match his playoff scoring pace all season long and his contract didn't demand anywhere near that. That would be almost 50 goals over 82 games, good enough for about a $6M contract from a ufa.

His contract, did however, call for him to score 20 goals. Did I expect that?..nope. He's 30 years old and hasn't scored 20 in his career...I was just hoping that Lowe saw something I didn't. I guess not. Same goes for Horcoff. Ok player(2nd line) but certainly not worth what he's getting paid..Some poor decisions there.

Of course I'm talking about Pisani, not Lupul.

IMO Pisani would be an absolute MAX 25 goal scorer. That would be against soft opposition and with offensive linemates. If Moreau could score 20, IMO so could Pisani. He is a great complimentary player and a trooper, perfect play-off guy, that said if a person expects him to lead the team to the play-offs that's rather un-fair. Claude Lemieux was of that mold, o.k. in the regular season and dynamite in the play-offs.

I figured you were talking about the 30 year old Lupul on our team.

we oiler fans are sometimes way to harsh. ok i agree the pisani contrtact was a total misque from klowe. i mean. wow overpaying a bit.

but lupul...the kid is young and has the talent for sure i mean it not a fluke scoring 27 goals last year in anehiem. wat is he 23 or smth give him a break he had an off year. we were expecting 30 goals from raffie too remmeber. this year jsut sucked...the whole team sucked. it sucks but give him some breathing room. 60-70 points from him isnt too farfetched down the road. and we just need to wait for him to mature a bit. remember we're in rebuilding mode so we have time to wait so jsut be patient with him. i feel lucky that we could sign such a talent for 3 years.
