Scott Niedermayer, the modern version of a rover

The Rover, who was notoriously the team's fastest skater, best stick-handler, and highest scorer, was allowed to play wherever he pleased on the ice...

Seems like Niedermayer is everywhere on the ice.

Paul Coffey is the modern version of the rover.

Scott Niedermayer may be the contemporary version.

hehe, yeah. Irony. Coffey was better playing as a 4th forward than he was playing as a Dman

I think Fedorov is the best modern example.

If you caught Bob Cole calling the Canucks/Flames game on Saturday, it must be D-man Willie Mitchell as the seventh man - the old rover position.

On the power play the 'Nucks had Tremblay and Bieksa back on the points with three forwards. Cole kept referring to Mitchell passing to himself on the points.

According to Cole:
"Mitchell is everywhere".

The one place Cole should have checked was the bench which was where Willie was stationed on the pp.
