It's on TSN and ESPN as well.

According to the Devils board, Lou will be taking over behind the bench.

This is beyond weird.

Not a surprise? I would say a team that has over 100 pts and sits 2nd in their conference, firing their head coach with 3 games left in the season before the playoffs, qualifies as a surprise....

I hope they go out early and Lou finally gets the boot. That will really be something.

To me, anyways, he never seemed like the guy how would get them over the top. I guess considering the situation, but there are probably some internal things going on. Does anyone else see this leading to the eventual return of Pat Burns to the swamp?

They had just won 4 of their last 5. You've got coaches riding securely that have lost 16 of their last 17 or so, and this guy gets tossed while securely near the top of a conference.

I'd like to see Julien behind the bench next season instead of Mac-T. I'm still looking to find a valuable reason why he's been fired.

Kind of thought he would get the gas at the end of the season but not with 3 games left in the season and still a shot at No. 2 spot in the east.

Lou is a smart cat. Annoying, and easy to hate... but smart nonetheless.

I am taking a blind stab in the dark with a plastic fork here, but I think Lou sees NJ's chances in the playoffs better under him and not Julien. The timing is poor, and Juliens record speaks for itself, so it is somehwat baffling in that respect... but one can safely assume it was done in the view that the Devils have a better chance at a cup under Lou, in his eyes anyways... he also has a pretty impressive record.

I personally would think that's the most likely scenario here. But still, to fire Julien with 3 games left in the year and having done such a strong job this season....it's a joke IMO.

They did it to Robbie Robbie Ftorek, and I think they won the cup that year.

Edit: They did infact they fired Ftorek with 8 games left and won the cup with Robinson The New Jersey Devils, Look at 99/00

The Ftorek firing was made under very different circumstances. The Devils were struggling when Ftorek was fired, but this years Devils have won 4 of their last 5. and Read Spector's blog for more of an explanation http://community.foxsports.com/blogs/Spector

Personally, I don't understand why you'd fire a winning couch. I think that C. Julien is a great coach, and I really think that the Oilers should hire him to take over from MacT.

Julien used to be an Oiler employee when he coached with the Bulldogs. If not the NHL I'm sure the Oilers would consider him for Springfield along with Geoff Ward and some others. Not sure Julien would take the step down though.

My first thought was that Lou wants the playoff glory for himself. I then read further that the Devils did the same thing with a previous coach and Lou ended up winning the Cup and I wonder just how selfish the brilliant man may be.

Really, I'm not that cynical. Anyone want to tell me why I'm wrong?

Except Lou didn't win the cup.

He fired Ftorek and replaced him with Robinson who won the cup.

When he took over himself, they beat a depleted Rangers team in round 1, then got their ***** handed to them by the Canes in Round 2.
