Team Canada Junior 2011 Roster/Camp Discussion

This thread might already exist but I can't seem to find it. Anyways, with development camp coming in August in St-John, I thought maybe we could come up with our roster for the WJC. Hopefully this year, we will have a skilled team with grit so we can get back our World Champions title. No, Jordan Eberle won't be there anymore..but maybe we will find another Canadian hero. Here is the list of the invitees for the development camp.

Too lazy to look it up but can one of you smarter posters devise a list of what current NHL'ers would still be eligible to play?

We need no line-up, only a blindfolded Glennie

Duchene
Kane
O'Reilly

I know Canada usually misses lots of teens who are in the show, but I dont think there has ever been 3 guys who missed 2 potential WJC in a row in the same year. Last year there was Stamkos, Staal the year before, and Gagner the year before that; but never 3 in 1 year

Also, this team could have a lot of 18 year olds. Pickard could be the first 18 year old goalie since Leland Irving (who never played). Gudbrandson, Gormely, Skinner, Seguin (if eligible), Johansen and Couturier should all make it. Connolly, Ross, Toffoli and Pysyk also have a great shot at the team

Let's go, Frontenacs!

Though of the three, I think Gudbranson's the only one with a relatively good shot. The other two will have to have huge seasons/camps to make it.

Ok welll here's my roster:

Forwards:

Skinner - Schenn - Glennie
Couturier - Leblanc - Kassian
Ashton - Schwartz - Beck
Howden - Johansen - Ross

Riley Sheahan

Defense:

Ellis - de Hann
Gormley - Gudbranson
Desprιs - Roussel

Brayden Mcnabb or Nicolas Deslauriers

Goaltenders:

Olivier Roy
Calvin Pickard

As you can all see, I left out Hall, Seguin and Cowen since I think they all have a shot at making their respective NHL team. Yes..even Cowen. Bryan Murray seems to like the kid after their development camp.

Facts:
6 players from the OHL
8 players from the WHL (including Mcnabb)
6 players from the Q (including Deslauriers)
3 players from the NCAA or committed (including Sheahan)

The development camp invitees did not include Tampa Bay's Brett Connolly. But, hopefully he will stay healthy and can dominate the WHL. I would certainly put him on the team playing on the 1st or 2nd line for sure.

Can't wait to see how Elliott does in camp and it will be interesting to see if either Av blueliners will have a shot at making the team.

McFarland also has a shot. Yes I know he wasnt invited to camp, but we know he has the talent. I think that Hockey Canada is trying to send him a message to wake up

I agree with this roster. Although I'd love to see someone instead of Kassian, and I'd love for Skinner to be on the first line. Both because of personal biases.

I doubt it. I highly doubt they have such a personal view of a certain player's success.

If he's not playing well or hard enough it's not up to Hockey Canada to try and wake him up.

The roster seems really good and I think we have more grit than last year's team. We lose guys like Hall and Eberle but we still have Schenn and guys like Johansen, Connolly and Leblanc can step it up and contribute more. About Mcfarland, I think it's gonna depend on his season with the Wolves. On the other hand, I think a young Sean Couturier could bring grit and skill to the team. I really think he's gonna dominate at the camp. Do you guys think we have a chance to beat the American with this roster?(not the one I propose, but with the players invited)

I'd say 50-50 Schenn makes the Kings roster this year. He re-worked his contract (removed some incentive clauses) to have a better cap number to give him a better chance to be the #4 center.

What do you guys think are Despres' odds of making the team? I would freaking be ecstatic if I got a chance to see him for a couple of weeks playing against the best juniors.

You guys probably pay more attention to this than me....if you had to put odds on it, what're the chances Gauthier-Leduc surprises people and makes the roster, even as a 7th defenseman?
