Flames beat the #1 team in the league in an old school game

Full of fights, great goaltending, and great defense. The Flames beat the Flyers 3-2 in OT. I didn't see any threads anywhere about this mother of a game, but it was awesome. McAmmond with two goals, Warrener with a fight and lotsa big hits, Kipper with great saves, Primeau with a hell of a game, nailing everyone, and Roenick with a fight. (!)

Anyone else see this game? It was probably my favorite game of the year.

In other news, the flames will replace the flaming C at centre ice of the saddledome with a picture of kiprusoff's face.

Good game. I missed the end though. The Roenick fight was rather pathetic. Note to JR if you decide you want to fight you should try to do so. Brashear ducking Warrneer was horrible as well. I hate it when he pulls that stuff.

I saw the game tonight. The Flyers are definitely the best team I've seen the Flames play so far this season. I thought they got away with murder out there as there were an awful lot of non-calls on what should have been obvious Flyer penalties. It looks good on cocky guys like Roenick to be the goat on McAmmond's tying goal. Great win for the Flames. Anyone who doesn't think this team has arrived after a game like that isn't paying attention.

Brashear didn't duck Warrener.

Flyers were leading 2-1 at the time, and Warrener was trying to get Brash to drop the gloves and draw a power play. Warrener faked dropping the gloves a few times, but wasn't dropping the for real.

Roenick will fight, but he's not very good at it.

Damn right. Great effort by the Flames on the road against one of the best teams in the league. A very hard fought win for the Flames. This was one of the best games of the year I've seen so far. Great action throughout, lots of physical play, great goaltending (Kiprusoff ) I never would have predicted the Flames would be 6 games over .500 half way through December. The way they are battling and competing night in, night out, with out 3 of their 4 centers is a testament to Darryl Sutter. The Flames have bought into his system......

Hell of a game. Lots of hits, fights, nice goals, big saves. Flyers lost in OT but I was still thoroughly entertained. Flames are, no pun intended, on fire right now.

Agreed very entertaining game, scoring, hits, and fights.

Flyers deserved a better fate, as they dominated the last 30 minutes or so, but couldn't cash in on their chances.

Alice, it's past your bed time. Finish your warm milk and cookies, put your Sponge Bob PJs on, and get in your race car bed.

I wish, that's futuristic stuff.

I thought the reffing was atrocious tonight. Countless missed calls on both sides, including the brutal high sticking by Ragnarsson on Oliwa and the various trips perpetrated by both sides (particularily the obstruction). Still - great game. Brashear shoulda dropped em with Oliwa, though.

It has been beaten to death, but the Flames are a different team this year. It seems like they always come from behind to win, whereas they used to blow leads like crazy in the third. Remember, they were playing without two of their top centres tonight too in Reinprecht and Conroy.

Right now the Drury trade is looking like a slam dunk for Sutter.

Congrats to the Flames.

That said, the Flyers are #2. Before tonight's games, the Flyers had earned 71.6% of possible points. St. Louis had earned 72.2%. Now, the Flyers are at 70.9% and the Blues are up to 73.2% with their OT win over Columbus.

Didn't see the game, but read the recap... Some sour grapes here, or was the third not the most exciting part of the game?

"It's really frustrating," Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said. "The Flames weren't even playing in the third period. Their best play was to ice the puck. They were dead. We allowed two scoring chances and they scored on both. They were two soft goals."

It wasn't sour grapes, what he's saying is that we dominated the game, but lost, and that's frustrating.

I was worried when Lombardi was out on the ice checking Primeau. Looked like a little terrier trying to hump his leg. Man the Flyers are big.

Great game by Kobasew and McAmmond. Good to see a great game like that. Even better to see the Flames win it. I'm also glad both teams got a point, they both deserved it.
