With DiPietro and Miller in the playoffs and Esche sucking, I guess Grahame starting wouldn't be a surprise. Conklin certainly won't be.

And wow, I just noticed how few European players they have on this team. It's possible they could enter next season with Wallin and Kaberle as the only Euros (Craig Adams doesn't count).
Wait, Vasicek? Or am I missing something?

Depends if Vasicek is re-signed or not.

Daniel Manzato has been added to the Swiss team.

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/...=1&disp=single

According to Luke DeCock, he will be joining Martin Gerber there. I wonder if DeCock knows that Ottawa is still playing.

The fine reporting at the N&O strikes again. Seriously, I think some of us would make better reporters then the group they have. Not that this is a valid reason for people to rip on our fanbase by any meens, but it certainly doesn't help our cause.

On the other hand that's great news from the Manzato standpoint. Shows how highly reguarded he is despite not putting up good numbers this year on a rather, well, godawful team.

Perez/DeCock have made 40 postings to the Hurricanes blog for the month of April, netting a total of 19 comments.

Anyways, I hope Hutchinson has a good tournament so we can up his trade value to maybe a 5th round pick.

Luke DeCock claims that Gerber was actually on the roster "as recently as yesterday" and thus won't edit his post.

It should also be noted that the head coach of the Switzerland national team is Ralph Krueger, father of Carolina prospect Justin Krueger.

He's also one of our scouts. I'm sure it was a total coincidence we selected his son.

In case you guys didn't see that game, Staal looked better than I had seen him play all year and could have easily had 5 or 6 goals...

I remember when we drafted him they mentioned that fact, but I couldn't find "Ralph Krueger" on the Hurricanes' staff page.

Ward stoped 21 of 23 shots against Norway in Canada's 4-2 win. (yikes, only 4-2 )

Looks like Williams was on the same line as Staal today and he had the clincher to make it 4-2. Obviously not a great game for Canada, but they pulled through anyway.

The U.S lost 4-3 against the Czech Republic today. They were behind 3-1 late in the the third period, only to tie it up (on goals by LaRose and Hutchinson) and then allow the winning goal with just over a minute left.

Grahame allowed 4 goals on 24 shots.

U.S scoring:

Second Period
1 - Ryan Suter (Lee Stempniak, Phil Kessel)

Third Period
2 - Chad LaRose (Keith Ballard) SH
3 - Andrew Hutchinson (Ryan Suter, Phil Kessel) PP

Sounded like a crazy game. Ladislav Smid for the Czech Republic had 27 PIM and Lee Stempniak for the United States had 25 PIM.

Nice to see Andrew Hutchinson and Chad LaRose light the lamp, this experience can only be positive for the both of them.

Nice performance by Erik Cole

Paul Stastny will be a monster next season for Colorado. Is his point-streak still intact?

Update on the Canada vs. U.S.A. game. It's 4-0 Canada after the first period. The goaltending matchup is Grahame vs. Ward. The big stories so far are that the Staals are playing together for the first time in their lives and their very first shift produced a goal. It was a beautiful passing play finished off by Mike Cammaleri. 8 seconds into the game Jay McClement scored. Commodore picked up an assist. Second goal was the Cammaleri goal. The third goal was another 2 on 1 with Nash and Lombardi. Nash made the cross-crease pass and Lombardi finished it off. Fourth goal, Staal won the faceoff and Hamhuis threw a shot on net that Cammaleri tipped past Grahame for his second of the game. Grahame probably won't start the second I'm guessing but it's not his fault. The American defense is playing terrible right now in front of him. At one point in the first Phaneuf was talking to LaRose and Rosie gave him the funniest look I've ever seen. Looked like he was acting scared. On a side note, I hope the canes sign Cammaleri. Pretty sure he's a ufa.
