I'm actually somewhat surprised Tanabe isn't going. Gleason isn't because I assume is he's gonna have that finger problem. Hedican likely would have gone if he was healthy too. I'm guessing Lavi is going to be the coach with Tortorella and Ron Wilson in the playoffs, as well as the fact that Lavi was at the olympics. I wonder if Maurice is going to coach Canada again?
With DiPietro and Miller in the playoffs and Esche sucking, I guess Grahame starting wouldn't be a surprise. Conklin certainly won't be.
And wow, I just noticed how few European players they have on this team. It's possible they could enter next season with Wallin and Kaberle as the only Euros (Craig Adams doesn't count).
The fine reporting at the N&O strikes again. Seriously, I think some of us would make better reporters then the group they have. Not that this is a valid reason for people to rip on our fanbase by any meens, but it certainly doesn't help our cause.
On the other hand that's great news from the Manzato standpoint. Shows how highly reguarded he is despite not putting up good numbers this year on a rather, well, godawful team.
The U.S lost 4-3 against the Czech Republic today. They were behind 3-1 late in the the third period, only to tie it up (on goals by LaRose and Hutchinson) and then allow the winning goal with just over a minute left.
Grahame allowed 4 goals on 24 shots.
1 - Ryan Suter (Lee Stempniak, Phil Kessel)
2 - Chad LaRose (Keith Ballard) SH
3 - Andrew Hutchinson (Ryan Suter, Phil Kessel) PP
Update on the Canada vs. U.S.A. game. It's 4-0 Canada after the first period. The goaltending matchup is Grahame vs. Ward. The big stories so far are that the Staals are playing together for the first time in their lives and their very first shift produced a goal. It was a beautiful passing play finished off by Mike Cammaleri. 8 seconds into the game Jay McClement scored. Commodore picked up an assist. Second goal was the Cammaleri goal. The third goal was another 2 on 1 with Nash and Lombardi. Nash made the cross-crease pass and Lombardi finished it off. Fourth goal, Staal won the faceoff and Hamhuis threw a shot on net that Cammaleri tipped past Grahame for his second of the game. Grahame probably won't start the second I'm guessing but it's not his fault. The American defense is playing terrible right now in front of him. At one point in the first Phaneuf was talking to LaRose and Rosie gave him the funniest look I've ever seen. Looked like he was acting scared. On a side note, I hope the canes sign Cammaleri. Pretty sure he's a ufa.
