Rob Blake

Now that we have Jack Johnson, it's time to get rid of Rob Blake. How much will it cost to buy him out?

It will cost too much. And I think management has it in mind to keep Blake around to help Johnson refine his game.

This is a laughable suggestion, and feels like a plant to get me banned some more. I'll try to take the high road here...

Jack Johnson is a capable CHILD who has to become a MAN, and it will take TIME. Rob Blake was once a child and became a man with the help of a defenseman named Larry Robinson.

If the internet had been prevalent in 1990-91, there would have been a bunch of idiots on message boards asking how the hell the Kings could get rid of an old geezer like Larry Robinson now that they had Rob Blake.

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

Tubby hits the nail squarely on the head with the above answer. No need for further comment, lock the thread.

Look at our games without Blake...it has been a disaster.

Great post above and by Tubby. Like theis approach more Tubby haha. Seriously though as written above look at our games without him. I think he is vastly overpayed and not a huge fan of him either. He is still a great defender even if he has declined. Problem is everyone knows and remembers what he was or once could do. Obviously he has regressed and slowed down. Being the #1 defender is possibly not a best bet for him but I can albeit guarantee he would play on most if no every teams top 4.

So we're getting our 12,000,000 clams worth?

Alotta jack to be a good example.

I'd give his season a D (poor) on the ice. Brutal!

And people have the temerity to put Derek Armstrong under a microscope.

But, in the end, you sure can't buy him out. Even if it's a horrendous contract.

The end of a career is a sad thing to watch especially in the context in which I have had to watch Blake slip/slide away.

Are we getting $12,000,000 clams worth?

It's money that wouldn't have been spent elsewhere nor did it stop us from signing a top tier free agent, so who cares. Even with his contract on the books next season it does not hurt us much. It still gives us room to sign a top forward and top defenseman.

The only thing it is stopping us from doing is signing Stuart and Souray at defense (or something like that) but it guarantees that there will be plently of cash available for re-signing Lubo.

They will not trade Blake, they had offers at the deadline and both Rob and Lombardi met and decided to keep him. They had offers from teams, and is probably the best time they had to deal him, next year will be the last year of his deal and he will be a year older and an UFA, if they wanted to deal him, last deadline was the time.

I am stoked to have him, he has turned his game around, and if we are a playoff team next year, Blake is the guy you want there...He will help Harrold, Johnson and Visnovski.

Good post Tubby, I wanted to jump on this rediculous post also. It amazes me how people can spend so much time on a hockey message board, but know nothing of the subject. Tubby, sometimes your posts are a bitter pill to swallow, but I'm typically entertained.

blake is worth the money to me if he was one of the factors for johnson leaving college early. also think that he may be able to help the kings attract a free agent or two that maybe wouldn't normaly sign w/ the kings. example could be chris drury who has a house out here but maybe being friends w/ blake helps in his decision

I'd rather buy you out. No more posts like this, please. Save them for that "other" site.

Thanks. I am here to (a) provide comic relief, (b) occasionally bash the moderators and (c) let you know you misspelled "ridiculous."

Other than that, I'm just waiting for the season to end so (d) I can say, I TOLD YOU SO

(lol)

Slightly off topic, and a bit of an observation, but besides "your" and "you're," and "there," "their," and "they're," I think "ridiculous" and "definitely" are the most commonly misspelled words on message boards (that's a long-ass sentence). It's "definitely" "ridiculous."

Using affect as a noun and effect as a verb are a couple more bbs classics

Uh, yeah. I remembered the poster from his earlier posts, and that was all that I needed to know. I applaud Tubby's effort, but it may've been wasted.
