Game 7 OT winners

Hello!

I am working on a project chronicling all the game 7 OT winners and was wondering if the members of the board could help me out with the names of the OT goal-scorers from the following game 7's:

1991-92 1st round: @Montreal 3, Harford 2, 25:26
1988-89 1st round: @Calgary 4, Vancouver 3, 19:21
1985-86 2nd round: @Montreal 2, Hartford 1, 5:55
1984-85 2nd round: Quebec 3, @ Montreal 2, 2:22
1983-84 2nd round: @Minnesota 4, St. Louis 3, 6:00
1982-83 2nd round: @Boston 3, Buffalo 2, 1:52

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Probably the most famous game 7 OT of all time was NYI @ Wash during the 1987 playoffs.

I think what he's saying is he already knows the rest, but these are the ones that he doesn't know the names of.

The Park goal over Buffalo was a heartbreaker for me.

About the Stastny goal, I remember Game 7 was on the same night as the Ontario provincial election, so I could only watch the game on the French TV station.

One of the greatest games you'll ever see was Van/Cgy 1989 Game 7. Peplinski shot the puck towards the net and had it go off Otto's skate just by a fluke. Vancouver had a breakaway in OT but couldnt win, poor Stan Smyl, Vernon robbed him.

Reckoning...thanks for all the help!

Did you just know all of these off the top of your head, or is there a website I don't know about that has all the info?

I knew them cause I used to keep track of Game 7 OTs, but I'd be a little off on the more recent ones. In the entire decade of the 70s it only happened 3 times, now it seems to happen about once every year.

I remember that game/goal. That was one frustrating series. Montreal was 5th overall (after fighting the Rangers for 1st for most of the year), and just played like crap. Frank Peterangelo was lights out that entire series, while Roy stunk up the joint. The Habs went on to be swept by Boston, and you could see that comming from a mile away.

The 1988 Caps' winner over the Flyers was Mike Keenan's final game with Philadelphia. That was one of the screwiest series I remember.

Down 2-1 in games, the Caps had a 4-1 lead in Game 4 with about nine minutes left in the 3rd period. The Flyers tied it with less than a minute in regulation and won it in OT.

Washington was now down 3-1 in the series but then won Games 5 and 6. At home for Game 7, the Caps trailed 3-0. They then scored four straight to take a 4-3 lead. The Flyers tied it about a minute after falling behind to send it to OT, killed a penalty in OT, but then the Caps won it.

I posted this question a couple of months ago, but didn't get any responses, and this seems like a good place to ask again...

Does anybody have individual player stats for Game 7's? Or at least somewhere to look at boxscores for playoff games?

Shot in the dark, I know...

I'm not sure about all games but FlyersHistory.NET lists every box in the team's history. It is a terrific site for research.

I'm a Boston fan, but I do remember that break-in by Smyl. Vernon gloved it and, for a second or two, held the puck out in front of him as he strained to avoid falling back into the net and taking the biscuit with him.

The Canucks got some revenge in 1994 as Kirk McLean made what is probably the greatest Game 7 OT save in history, before Bure got the game-winner.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7hEPzALqeS4

By the way, during their heyday, the Islanders were twice taken to a Game 5 OT(when the first round was best-of-5), in 1982 by the Penguins, and in 1984 by the Rangers. Tne Isles trailed Pittsburgh 3-1 with five minutes but escaped, and beat the Rangers after Don Maloney had tied it late with that infamous "high stick" shot.

Hey PNEP,

Thanks for all the help...I had most of those, but not all the details from the ones in the 60's and 70's. What is Novosibirsk like now? I was there in the summer of 1988 as part of a student exchange program when I was in college and had a great time. Learned how to sing "Yellow Submarine" in Russian, among other things...

Perhaps the greatest moment of my teenage life

Kind of sad to think about how much a first round win meant, but in my teen years it was hard to be an Oilers fan. Especially as the hometown team (Ottawa) started to improve... but this series brought the fire back.

I woke up my whole house and next store when Toddy scored this one.

One of the most famous Devils Rangers 1994, Mattau with the wrap around...

One of my favorite games ever.

What was it like when Cujo made that OT save on Nieuwendyk? One of the best ever under the circumstances, probably just behind Kirk McLean's stop against the Flames in 1994.

What about David Volek's goal in 1993 to eliminate the Penguins? That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head that isn't in that table.

Excellent on your part to point that one out. A memorable game in different ways, from Kevin Stevens being knocked out cold to Tom Barrasso's foibles to the Pens scoring twice late in the third to tie it.

In addition to his Game ot goal in `88, Dale Hunter also got the winning goal in Game 5 OT when Quebec beat Montreal. So since Game 5 OT in a best-of-five is pretty much the same as Game 7 OT, he's the only player with two such goals.
