Apparently FG is not interested in wasting time.

I predict another 5.75M deal.

Miller is pretty reliable and I'm sure we'll find out about the details in the coming days. I'm happy that this is done, but I am curious about the dollar figure. That number could have an impact on what the Avs are able to do this summer.

Agreed, glad it's done so quickly, and very curious about the figure. But having the most respected player in hockey locked up early should be good for attracting free agents.

Wow!

I love you, Joe Sakic. That's why (EDIT: , among many, many other things) , you are the greatest captain in the NHL.

Now if Kevin Lowe had done the same thing last season with Ryan Smyth.....

That deal must been completed literally seconds after the game was finished. Whatever Super Joe makes he'll be worth ever penny.

For a canuck fan, you seem to have an unhealthy fixation on the Oilers.

It's not like he had a season numerous times greater this year. I doubt he would have been looking for much less, probably around the same ballpark.

Back on topic, I predict 6.5M (And worth it easily).

On "Avalanche Talk" tonight, Mike Evans mentioned that Sakic was asked whether he would return next season several times after the game tonight and each time Joey said he was definately coming back. My guess is that the contract was agreed to earlier today.

Hopefully it's for a decent price. Joe deserves whatever he wants, but a part of me wishes that he took slightly less so that the Avs could give him more support next year. Regardless, great start to the offseason already. Hopefully we see Hensick and the like signed soon, and then signed to ATO's so they can play for the Rat's. That team could get extremely talented very quickly with both the Avs and Canes out.

No kidding. I hate it when negotiations get ugly and drag on endlessly like this.

I think I caught a glimpse of the pen still in his hand when he came out for his first-star announcement.

I'm guessing 6.5 M. He deserves a raise after playing so well and with the cap going up.

Love it. Sends message both to the fans and to the Avs: next season begins NOW, and Joe's never missing the playoffs AGAIN

really i think super joe wasnt gonna go anywhere the hole season...he has stated before that the only reason why he signs one year deals is to reavaluate his play for the season. i saw no reason for him to leave seeing as he has a great season...he would only leave if he feels that he cannot contribute to the avs team anymore. and that wont be for a while...i mean comon...hes super joe

so relax fans he wont be going anywhere for a while

Didn't you hear? The new contract has a clause where Sakic can jump ship to the Canucks and the Avs still pay his salary.

I'm sure there's one on Canucks.com as we speak.
