Do a search in the Oilers forum for threads started by me and you'll see why.

I was ticked last season watching the worst Canucks team ever finish their season and wanted to cheer for a team after waiting for the playoffs during the lockout. I knew Edmonton had the tools to beat the Wings (I was the only one that picked the Oilers to beat the Wings last season on these boards) and they did.

Awful way to talk about the Oilers' players.

i cant remember who it was, but i recall getting into a debate with someone else on the av board here about how he thought joe wasnt worthy of being the captain because he wasnt a leader, wasnt clutch enough, and didnt have it anymore. it was another avs fan. it was earlier in the season, im dying to hear someone admit they said those things after watching joe over the last couple of months. he is one of the best players in the history of the game, and the numbers will back it up in the end. joe sakic, youre still my friggin hero. im too old to have heroes like that but i just dont care.

Great signing for the Avs.

The signing also saves alot of "What if Sakic came to the Canucks?" threads from popping up this summer too

Probably not much of one. COL gains, what, roughly 10 mil in cap room after the rise in the cap combined with opening up the space from Sakic and Blake's bonuses, plus Konowalchuk's salary?

Not to mention Breazy, Turgeon, and maybe Theodore buyout...

From RMN:
Quote:
Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere and coach Joel Quenneville will discuss the state of the team with reporters at the Pepsi Center today.
I'm thinking this is when they'll formally announce it.

I believe his name was SCThrash.

ABasin joined in...only to play Devil's Advocate if I recall correctlly?

Shortly after the long debate, of which I was on the side that Joe WAS a good leader, worthy captain, etc., SCT was never heard from on this board again...

4.6 Bonuses for Blake and Sakic
1.9 Kono
3.75 Turdgeon and Brisbutt (yeah I'm mature )
+cap rising

Not to mention of Sauer Vaananen Klee Arnason I doubt all will be back.

After resigning the UFAs FG want back and giving out various RFA raises there should be 8 million at the absolute minimum worst case scenario to spend on UFA's. Likely 10+. A top pairing defenseman, a good physical #4, and a good physical 3rd liner should be affordable with the space available.

Possibly

5.5 top pairing defenseman
2.5 number four defenseman
~1.5 third liner

Sauer is an RFA so like it or not most likely he'll be back. And if he's plays next year like he did the last 20 games, that'd be fine with me.

I'd be more than happy to see Sauer and Klee return and rotate #6 and #7 spots. You'd be hard pressed to find better replacements for those roles, and we don't really have any defenseman in our system that seem ready, outside of maybe Finger.

At this point you have to also add Theodore, he's as good as gone. That should free up another 3 million.

2/3 of his salary to buy out, 1/3 is a cap hit, IIRC

I wonder why people fret so much? It's been stated numerous times before, Joe wants to say in Colorado and FG and PL want Joe as long as he wants to be in Colorado. He'll get what he thinks is fair and nobody in the league will question that number.

Theodore is actually slated to earn $6 million in 2007-08. If the Avs choose to buy him out, he'll count $1,333,333 against the cap for 2007-08 and $2 million for 2008-09.

He only wants 1 year deals so he can re-evaluate his play after the season to make sure he still want's to play. Also so he doesn't screw over the team cap wise if he decides to retire.

Aren't cap hits based on the yearly average price of the contract?

ie...Joe Smith earns 500k in season 1, 1 mil in season 2, and 1.5 mil in season 3 which his cap hit will be 1 mil per season (the average price of the contract)

I wish Theodore wasn't so darned expensive, I wouldn't mind having him around as a backup goalie. I thought he showed pretty solid play towards the end, he seems to get along well with the team and works very hard.
