We free up around $4million next season by buying out theo, but also have to count 2 million against the caps of BOTH next year and the year afterward.

And, I'm betting that Ryan Smyth is added next season, I've heard rumors, plus he is good buddies with Sakic

Anyone has the number yet? I wonder how much Joe will make next season.

BTW, how about if Theo comes out publicly that he wants to stay?

Theodore has publically said he wants to stay, but it's not up to him. Just like some of the potential UFAs currently on the club will want to stay. I'll be surprised if at least 1/4th to 1/3rd of this team isn't turned over.

Sakic called Denver "a great hockey city" and said there is no doubt that he will sign a new contract and wear an Avalanche uniform again next year.

No

as Irish Blues already said, he'd count $1,333,333 in 07-08 and $2 million for 08-09.
(i think Jori also made this calculation some time ago)

I assume you mean me and yes, I took the five minute effort the Denver media apparently lacks. I think I'm going to make a t-shirt out of Theodore's buyout numbers and wear it around the city.

Mass-produce it and sell it at cost, see how long it takes for the point to get communicated to Avs brass.

Love the t-shirt idea.

On a more immediate level, maybe we've reached the point where a sticky thread with big neon letters is necessary? Something along the lines of "Theo's REAL buyout cap hits." Might slow the growth of the 114 incorrect posts across 12 different threads that we currently have.

as crazy as it sounds, it still may possible to move the guy. i didnt think they would have a chance to do it during the season - and that ended up being true....but some teams can take the hit if you make the deal a good one. i watched the pho game yesterday and they started talking about whether or not a team would take the chance on theo. they honestly thought someone would. i was surprised they said it, but i think there is a possibility. did anyone think lou would get out of his hole in jersey? he had to overpay to do it but he found a way. when teams figure out their budgets and then get past the initial few weeks of ufa madness. who knows, a team with a lot of cap space with young goaltending might think its an investment thats worthwhile. also, since he is the last year of the contract he becomes easier to move since its only one year. maybe someone gives a us a longer but easier contract to even it out. maybe an overpaid dman that we could use.

buying guys out is a flat out waste of money, and should only be done in the most dire of situations. i dont see this organization - especially pl - throwing away cash to get rid of the guy. this is a team thats willing to spend every penny of that cap space - they wont want to have it used by a guy not even here.

With reentry waivers at least. If the Avs found a buyerat that price the cap hits would be a simular total, but 1 year as opposed to two.

Yes, that was us. SCT felt that Sakic is flat-out a poor leader. I was more interested (as usual, willing to discuss just about anything) in discussing why the Avs have always had periods of underperformance during Sakic's captain tenure, including this year, and if Sakic's leadership had anything to do with that.

I believe I saw in another forum that SCT was banned from the group by one of the mods. I don't know when or why that happened.

Fair enough! Time to start up the 2007-08 version of that "Avs cap numbers" thread, Foppa2118?

I knew we wouldn't get a 'home town discount'.

I think my guess a few weeks back was $6.5M, but I don't remember exactly. He signed for what he's worth. As he should have.

But at least we don't have to listen to other fans talking about the possibility of their team signing Sakic this summer.

Actually, you could argue that he signed for less than he's worth.
