Why is everyone saying that they should have held off trading Comrie until the deadli
We would have got nothing at the trade deadline. Clarke himself said that he was concerned with how long Comrie has been off but it was still before Christmas and they have 50 games left. Daryl Sutter issued the same statement about signing Ronning becauase it would take him until February to get up to speed. Why would anyone want Comrie down the stretch run after the deadline when he would not be in shape and the timing would not be there?
Also this trade is up to the Oilers scouts to turn into a steal. Imagine drafting a player like Hemsky in the first round and a goalie like Deslauriers in the third round and then if Woywitka turns into a better more mobile Jason Smith all of the sudden it looks like a steal.
I'm quite happy with the deal, though Woywitka isn't Carter or Gangne or Pitkanen but he's one heckuva prospect. I see him having more of an upside then Cory Perry, and he's exactly what Lowe needed to do in terms of getting a player that will help the dev. of the team. Our defense prospect looks that much better. Our D may looke a little like this in the next few years:
Brewer - Semenov
Lynch - Woywitka
Staios - Greene/K Smith
