No you don't double the badwidth, since the full image is there, you just split the spike of bandwidth so the image looks like it's there faster but ony the 1st half is there and then the show the other second half. So technically 1080I and 1080P have the same amount of pixel they jus have different way of sowing them.

Good news !
The Hockey New mentionned that RDS won't have HD until the next Fall ! However it doesn't confirm how many Habs games will be broadcast.
