Never understood why the never left the old system in place. Win, Loss, Tie. The shootout does nothing for me.

No, ties blow. The only major sport with ties anymore is soccer, and when the average score is 1-0, ties are a given. But the concensus is that the shootout is good. Now we just need to convince them that the OT point is useless. Points are no longer needed, Wins, Losses, Games Back or Winning Percentage. Let's bring hockey into the 20th century (let alone the 21st).
