Michael Peca

Here we are at the 30 game mark of the season and it appears Michael Peca is starting to play exactly how we expect him to play. While his defensive game continues to be solid as it has most of the season, shutting down opposing teams top forwards, credit Michael for working through some trying times early on where things were not bouncing his way offensively. You also have to credit Steve Stirling for doing some tinkering with the lines. Since Dave Scatchards return from a shoulder injury, Peca has some new linemates that he has clicked with in Shawn Bates and Trent Hunter and the Islanders have 3 solid lines and two lines that matchup well against opponents defensively.

Another point worth noting is that Peca appears to be his old self in the hitting department as well. Lately he has been noticable agitating, throwing mean hits and leading by example...

Let's hope he keeps this up and the Islanders may have themselves the player they have been paying for.

First 24 games 2 Goals 8 Assists +4
Last 5 games 2 Goals 4 Assists +7

19 games 8 Goals 4 Assists +4
Last 5 Games 4 Goals 4 Assists +9

First 24 Games 5 Goals 9 Assists +1
Last 5 Games 2 Goals 3 Assists +4

What's impressing me is you could see recently he was getting more and more chances in games, now he finally got an even-strength goal, the hitting has been a little more consistent too.

We'll see. With an injury like his confidence is supposed to be part of it and whenever a players starts to play better they always talk about having more confidence.

For a good part of the game against the Devils he dominated faceoffs, something that can be easily missed.
