No more "metal" hockey sticks for roller?

I haven't played roller in about eight years or so but when I did we always used wood sticks with an aluminum shaft. I also still have this cheap one that's really heavy, but I don't have it with me so I can't exactly describe it.

If I remember correctly, there were specific sticks for roller and plain wood or composite sticks used for ice. Or was I misinformed?

EDIT: Now I remember, sticks with plastic shafts. I came up with this question after looking at a bunch of hockey equipment sites and none of them specified ice or roller sticks.

Aluminum shafts have gone the way of Jimmy Hoffa. If you find him, consider it a miracle. Composites can be used in roller. Some of the lighter ones I've heard can have some problems (Vapor XXX) because of the increased friction on the surface, but composites are the way to go. Just as strong as aluminum, but lighter.

Stinks you haven't played in a while because finding the right composite is an art form, you can't just pick a certain shaft. There's a lot of perfecting involved.

Damn, if I have to get a composite I'll have to plan on spending a lot more. I remember when you could get a good stick for 50 bucks!

I got 3 Nike Bauer Apollo Shafts for 45 bucks CAD.

If you have a craigslist.org or something similar in your area, look there - sometimes there are cheap shafts for used. I got an Easton Ultralite for 40 bucks on there.
