Make a realistic Koivu deal

I love Saku. Think he's great. However, the Habs haven't accomplished squat with him due to various reason. If the decision to part ways comes about, what would a realistic return be? I'm not interested in hearing that it'll never happen etc, just what is an acceptable return, bearing in mind the NTC and how some teams perform in the playoffs this year. Also, it'll most likely be a team from the West. One example:

Koivu to Min
PM Bouchard, Brent Burns to Mtl. Try to get Boogaard in the deal to add a legit killer.

Hmm 4.75 million with a NTC and 2 years still remaining on the contract. If he does decide to waive, I doubt many team would want to take that on even though Koivu showed he can still somewhat produce.

Realistically and personally, I think on average Koivu for an average to above average prospect and a 1st / 2nd. We would then probably will have to take on some salary as well.

The cap is going up so his salary would't bother the teams all that much. As for the first proposal, Minnesota is giving too much...they are two good young players so they will not give all that.

I know, I thought I'd overvalue Koivu as per the expectaions of Habs fans . If we add our SJ draft pick I think it would be very realistic.

To Montreal: Lecavalier, Craig

To Tampa Bay: Koivu, Kovalev, Samsonov, *2008 2nd round pick

*EDIT: better add the 2nd round pick to make it realistic

That would raise TB's cap by 6M and since they want to reduce their total salaries to 40M I highly doubt that this deal could be considered realistic.

Lecavalier is having a career year, finally coming into his own...

Change Lecavalier for Richards, drop Samsonov

To Montreal: Richards, Craig, rights for Artyukhin

To Tampa Bay: Koivu, Kovalev, 2007 SJ 1st pick (or our own, doesn't matter)

Just coming off a 75pts season on a bad team, has leadership and he's a playoff performer... I think we could get a good deal...actually a very good deal

How about

Min: Koivu

Mtl: Jokinen

Fla: Pouillot, Burns, Min's 07 1st, Halak, SJ's 07 1st (or ours)

...Jokinen would be fantastic, but I doubt he's going to leave Fla

And what would we gain in that trade?

Lecavalier has a NTC to MONTREAL only, he doesn't want to play here

If Koivu is traded, it will be his decision, and i would be fine with that. At least he'd probably go to an organization whose showed a willingness to compete and not accept mediocrity.

He really shouldn't have stated it as fact. Vinnie didn't mention it yesterday in the CBC interview when asked if would ever play with Montreal.

Trading for Lacavalier is a pipe dream, anyway. Maybe we can get Crosby or Thornton or Ovechkin or Heatley, if Vinnie doesn't work out.

The more I think of it, the more I think he'll get traded.

He said he dosen't wan to be in a rebuilding team again. That's a strong, negative statement to be made. this probably means he has it in mind to leave. Even Kovalev didn't say something like that. wouldn't be surprised if the rumours that he asked for a trade after Rivet was gone were true.

boivin said they were ready to acquire a superstar and an impact player, which means he thinks they don't have any.

And Bob Gainey didn't garatee he would stay either.

I also have this feeling, and I know i'm not the only one around here, that Carbo dosen't get along well witht the guy. Might be wrong though.

As for the trade proposal, I don't make any because I think 1 out of 1000 is actually realistic on these boards anyway.

Would be curious to see what's his value around the league, I really have no clue about that.
