Exactly! Imagine if Koivu didn't have to play with Begin or Streit on the wing for almost half the season... Give him legitimate first line wingers and he'll put up really nice numbers. Enough to put an end to these stupid "trade Koivu" threads.

First. I hope he still gonna be with the team and gainey will be able to get a very good player - another center or a winger - to carry the load with Saku.

But - for any reaosns that I don't know but that Carbo and Gainey can have, and Saku too, - a deal might happen. Saku will waive his no-trade if only he can go to a contender , ora team his good buddies are playing with... (Selanne, Rivet, his brother Mikko...).

So if he is traded to

Anaheim... I would ask for the very speedy Andy McDonald + a first round pick (no way Burke is gonna give his actual youngsters)... I would like Beauchemin too, but he is the best deal in town on blue line.

San Jose... Patrick Marleau ! or one good youngsters among Bernier, Michalek, Vlasik, or Carle...+ Mark Bell would be great as a banger on the third line.

Minn... PM Bouchard + Burns or Shultz + 1st round pick

Half the season... Come on... Be honest... He played with them for a handful of games.

Anything to protect St-Saku ! Pitiful !

Its no different than similiar people who say he will definitely be traded, or bash him at every chance they get.

They'd be the ideal partners... but if you're San Jose, do you trade one of Vlasic, Bernier, or Carle for Koivu? that's what i'm wondering.

kiovu to calgary for brad stuart + 2nd round of 2008 ( 27 years old, 6-2 and 210 pounds. I think he signed a 3-4 deal with calgary after being traded from boston, not sure. He is a very good skater, very strong on puck movment and plays very well on the pplay. Is a bit better than souray in his zone, but prone to mistakes. )

I would have said koivu to chicago but he will say not since they are cup contenders.

You signa briere to replace kiovu and by trading koivu youreplace souray.

What team has a young offensive C and could use some balance. The team would have to have cheap offense at the present. SJ could make sense, but if Marleau was on th etable,Koivu wouldn't get him. I don't see Anaheim, to me that's just Koivu/Selanne talk and I don't see other team coming out ahead. Minnesota could make sense. LA ? Kopitar/koivu's a nice pair, though I don't know what they'd offer. Frolov's a nice player but I don't know what would have to be added.

It's difficult to deal a guy you've committed to. When you sign a long time player to a long term contract, there are thank you dollars involved, and it becomes tough to make a deal.

There's no doubt in my mind that Koivu will stay if Gainey makes some moves to get a proven goal scorer in the off season.
Koivu isn't a goal scorer, and that's what the media expects him to be and that's why they're always on his back.
Koivu is a play maker and a leader.
Ryder and Higgins are good but they're still young.
I'm not really sure who Gainey could try and sign, because Montreal isn't the easiest place to get people to play. (see Brendan Shanahan)
I'm not going to waste my time trying to figure out who they could get because it will make no difference.
Gainey stopped reading the emails I send him and he wont check this thread.

Sounds good to me... and as far as I know, Saku will bring some leadership to the other kids in pitts. A good trade for both teams !

I do not thinks Saku should be traded next season. The season after that would probably be better. However, if the Habs are going to go into a rebuilding mode, they should trade Koivu, Samsonov, Kovalev, and let Souray go.

I would prefer their 1st pick for 2009... let's get Tavares!

...but really man, there's no Crosby this year, no way the first choice is worth 2 first and Koivu...

You guys are underevaluating your own best offensive player...

Come on, Regehr is a stronger Rivet and Lombardi is a Plekanec but at the wing...these 3 might not even fetch Koivu alone...

The Habs are NOT going into rebuilding mode. Quite the contrary, both Pierre Boivin and Bob Gainey have told the media that the Habs are trying to re-sign Markov and Souray, and are lookiag to ADD one or two talented free agents, and/or, as Gainey said, may package some of our draft picks or prospects to acquire an impact player able to help the Habs immediately.

If the Habs trade Koivu under these circumstances, it would NOT be as a salary dump but strictly as a hockey deal, to get better immediately.

Having said that, I think Koivu has more trade value than many here think. He was 20th among centers in scoring and his salary is not out of line compared to the bulk of the established offensive players in the league.

My trade was intentionally stupid, but some of these "realistic" offers are terrible.

Koivu + Montreal's 1st pick + SJ 1st pick for Brad Richards
