Will playing NHL 2007 on PC improve my head for the game?

A friend repeatedly tells me how playing NHL 2007 on PC has improved his play, and that I need to try it too. I don't like computer games in general, but if there's a good chance it would benefit me on the ice, I'd get over myself and try it.

So I'm interested to hear from people who play both computer and real hockey. Had the former helped the latter? What are your experiences?

If you think you can manage to cut across the crease on every single play and score top shelf from 2 feet away without taking any abuse from defencemen, then I guess NHL 2007 would give you some experience

That's the most absurd idea I've ever heard.

the only way i can see it helping u at all is maybe by getting u pumped to play, or some kind of mental thing, but i think its a big stretch

NASCAR Drivers play whatever the current simulator game is to get used to the tracks.

Will playing NBA 2k7 improve my vertical leap?

No but it will improve your free-throws...

Actually i think it's quite the opposite, i think being a hockey player makes the game that much easier.

pretty sure it won't help you at all...there's no way you could get away with most of the stuff you do on nhl 07

If you manage to be innovative in the game, you should be so on the ice, so I doubt it.

I had a defensive player earlier this year who said he was learning from playing NHL 07. First off, we play 4 on 4 roller, which anyone who plays roller knows that its a totally different game, so that didn't work. Not to mention the defense in NHL 07 has the intelligence as 2 monkeys throwing poo at each other.

So to answer the question.

No.

Never.

Never ever.

Never ever ever.

Believe it or not, it's been proven that playing video games improves one's hand-eye coordination, but only practice will make you better.

if you spent that time practicing your shot or whatever then you could construe the idea that the CPU game will help you.

Play real hokcey instead of video games... and you will notice an improvement in no time!

Watching real NHL hockey will help you play better if you actually pay attention to a player who plays similarly to yourself.

NHL 07 will make you think that you can run around hitting everyone and go the other way on a breakaway to score.

Get your buddies and play some inline in the school yards and such. If not, watch a few videos on improving play. That'll help MUCH more than NHL '07.

It depends what you mean by improving your 'head for the game'. The reason I got in to hockey today is from playing NHL 2001. I learnt all the teams, a lot of the players and the rules from playing it. I also learnt all the penalties, the hockey lingo and the limited strategies for 5 on 5, PP, PK and 4 on 4 from it. Then again this was me who was a total n00b to hockey to begin with.

If you already know all of that and more, then I fail to see how it could help anyone's game at all.

It sure as hell won't help you if you want to be a general manager.

But I don't think it will help you with anything.
