Well, Are We Happy We Got Stuart Yet?

Lots of complaints when we picked up this dud (I mean dude) with his +/- a negative 22. Not hearing too many complaints lately.

Also the Wings in five drive? Toast

They battled the number one team in the west to a draw in four.....and once more, a new chance at life.

The Wings must be hearing footsteps now....

I was happy to get Brad Stuart right from the start, been a fan of his since his days with the Calgary Hitmen. So I'm not surprised at all to see him play this well. The real surprise for me in that trade has Wayne Primeau. He's been great.

I'll be honest and say I wasn't happy at all with the trade.

I really liked Ference and hated to see him get screwed out of his contract, and didn't want to see Kobasew go.

I knew Stuart was good, and I didn't know much about Primeau, so I wasn't 'happy' but now I can gladly say that i'm very happy with this trade, and hopefully Stuart and Preems re-sign.

Defensive depth......man you can never have enough of it. Just imagine where the Flames would be right now with Regehr injured.

I can't remember where I read it (prolly NHL.com) but Stuart was saying how he always wanted to be a Flames and this is his dream come true. I fully expect to see him sign up long term.

Adding him gave us one of the best top 4's in the league

I've been happy with the Stuart trade since it went down. He rounds out the flames top four perfectly.

Fingers crossed that he signs here over Hamrlik.

I have also been a big fan since his Hitmen days.

He's got a brilliant hockey mind. He takes a little bit to get comfortable (new team when he came over, new pairing when Regehr went down), but once he is, he can really dictate how the play goes (or doesn't go) in the Flames zone.

I dare say he was more of a factor last night than Lidstrom.

(well, aside from the bobble that resulted in Bertuzzi's goal. booooooooooo Bertuzzi)

Good points all around here. Aside from a couple of shaky moments throughout the series (see last night's bobble on the Bertuzzi goal) he's been great. It's taken him awhile to get comfortable in Calgary.... but he's been great.

I thought the world of Ference... but Stuart's a better d-man by a longshot. The guy can eat up minutes and brings size and a physical game. Sutter needs to lock this guy up.

I can only hope that we can survive long enough to see Regehr come back and play alongside Stuart once again. That shutdown pair could be even better than the Leopold-Regehr pairing of 04!

(As an aside... how about Wayne Primeau these last two games? What an unheralded pickup he was)

I like how Stuart has played since coming to Calgary. But come on most of you bloggers probably never heard of Staurt until Boston wanted to trade him. Come on be honest.

My thoughts exactly.

I really liked Andrew Ference and I was sad to see him leave, especially the way he left too, but nobody can deny that getting Brad Stuart was an upgrade for the Flames.

Stuart makes a ton of big time errors, and he takes him self out of the play a lot to make a big hit, and from time to time he misses.

I never liked this trade. Althought Primeau is about 100x better than Kobasew.

ask a bruins fan about stuart. i think over the course of an entire NHL season, having stuart will be an emotional rollercoaster. i think stuart is very heady in his own end (most of the time) and i like how he usually plays it safe (unlike ference, whose every shift was an adventure)... he is notorious for mini funks, like 10 games of futility, and that could be frustrating for fans.... i also don't like how he talks and plays big but seldom, if ever fights.... would like to see him drop his gloves about 5 times a season.
i didn't like people defending his poor play in game 4? or 5? by saying he was adjusting to playing his wrong side... i don't think this is that big a factor for NHL defensemen, i think he simply played bad.

There aren't that many Dman logging 20+ minutes that fight about 5 times a season and Stuart isn't a fighter to begin with. You can be tough without fighting.

Stuart was our best defenseman down the stretch and in the playoffs. Good luck to him with his new team in California.

I am unhappy untill he resigns and we know he wasn't one of the "selfish" players this year. He says he enjoyed coming here and he could see himself coming back. Sounds like he's not staying here for the summer.

We all remember him from the Cgy/SJ series in 03/04

not happy about having him at all anymore... on teh CTV news yesterday they said Stuart has already told the flames that he won't be re-signing... and they said something about Primeau returning being very unlikely

now with the early 1rst round exit we just handed the Bruins Kobasew and Ference

It's a risk we were all aware of when the deal went down.

Anyways, there was an article in today's Calgary Sun that discusses the situation with Brad Stuart & Wayne Primeau.

I saw the interview and that wasn't what he said. He said this is a situation he could see himself staying in, but he's not ready to make any decisions at this point.

I shutter to think about how much worse the team would have been defensively or physically without him. He provided virtually no offense but he's a stud and a must sign.
