Tell that to the NJ Devils, will you.

Although recipes for success may vary, you still need at least a *somewhat* decent blueline if you're going to win games consistently. And whatever style you play (even all out offense) you'll need very good blueliners to win a cup.

Plus, blueliners also contribute to offense so your point is moot. What the Trashers need, what they've needed for years actually, are good blueliners. In all shapes or form, as long as they can play solid.

Why they keep on acquiring/signing forwards and ignore defense is beyond me. But at least, if Waddell ever loses his job, he can take comfort in knowing he'll be the first candidate on Mario's list to replace Craig Patrick.

Here's one of the threads with the huge predictions.
Kovy another hattrick

My personal fave, the "completely change the league dynamics" prediction.

Nvmd.

He just broke the slump (well, for now).

1 goal, 1 assist.

Yep. Also, 5 points tonight for Savard (good grief he must be averaging close to 2 a game) and 4 for Slava Kozlov. Kovalchuk ended that slump with an exclamation point today.

I'd say he had a pretty good night tonight....2 goals, 3 assists.

Granted it was against the Pens, but still a big night.

The more appropriate Sports cliche is "Defense wins Champoinships"

I am not a hater, but:

1. Ilya broke the scoreless streak against a minor-league team (sorry, Pens fans...)

2. The teams will continue challenging him like they've been doing in the past 4-5 weeks. Lets see him do something against the Flyers or the Senators.

3. He is a 20 year old KID who plays crazy minutes, carries PP, and has more responsibility than any player in the league. He WILL wear down.

4. As long as Kovalchuk remains the only threat on the Thrashers (no disrespect to Savard or Kozlov - but the Thrashers go as Kovalchuk goes), he will never will the scoring title.

Once Heatly comes back the Thrasher will have more than enough offense. Savard, Kozlov, Heatly would be enough for any team and on top of that Kovalchuk.

That was just a good game OVERALL by the Thrashers. Ahh, I just love to see the good teams lose.

True, but five points is five points.

He got two points against the Flyers tonight!

Undoubtedly true.

You are aware that Atlanta is second in the league in goalscoring, aren't you? Take away Ilya's 21, and the team would still have more goals than all but nine teams.

ALL scorers benefit from weaker teams sooner or later.

That's why they're weak teams, you know.

He just did. 2 points.

Ask, and you shall receive.

I tend to take very lightly those kind of ridiculously absolute statements. Quite frankly, you don't know he will slow down for sure. No need to pretend you do.

That being said, I think it is very likely he will wear down :p

You're downplaying Savard in a HUGE way. To say he is not a scoring threat confirms you don't know crap.

Savard is playing very good hockey and while Kovalchuk helps, he is creating a lot of that offense and not all his points are tied to Kovalchuk.

Kozlov is also playing well and yes, he is a scoring threat.

The kid is well on his way to being one of the Premier snipers in this league but I think he will fall short of the Richard trophy this year because he will wear down and people will begin to Shadow him specifically if they arent already.

Also I am not an Ilya hater except for those exagerated celebrations.ILYA act like you have scored before.

It would have helped all of us if YOU toned down the BS a bit. I must have seen a dozen posts about Kovalchuk's celebrations from you. Find something else to obsess about.

Re: ripping Kovalchuk for his celebrations.

Are people reaching for straws or what? Can't call him a bad locker room influence, can't question his heart, can't call him selfish, can't question his desire - can't really say anything bad about him. So lets find something - ANYTHING, to be mad about. Lets call the damn Russkie disrespectful!
