The Official GDT for Round Two

New Jersey vs. Ottawa: 6 games.
Buffalo vs. New York: 6 games.

Detroit vs. San Jose: 7 games.
Anaheim vs. Vancouver: 6 games.

Hopefully we see some longer series as the better teams seemed to advance in every series of the first round. I wouldn't say any team remaining is much of an underdog, anyone can advance.

I'm looking forward to this. The shock of having the Flyers out of the playoffs has worn off and I feel like I can sit back and really enjoy it from here on out.

Oh, and **** Kyle Calder.

Pretty much agree with everything although I could see Marty making the NJ-Ottawa series very tight.

I do especially concur with the last part!

**** Calder.

The rust factor could come into play for at least a couple of teams.

Quite true. I don't see any 4-1 games like Ottawa had the first time around, but they've got the depth that I feel NJ lacks and I really think they're on a mission this year.

Exact same picks, Storm. I don't dabble in picking the number of games because I'm not that lucky, but everything else looks good.

Yeah I'm never right on the games, but I figure since I'm starting these threads I might as well give it a shot. If I had my way, every series would go 7 games...as long as the final game wasn't ruined by officiating like tonight.

Like I said in the Round 1 GDT, these are 4 great matchups... can't wait for things to get started.

everyone should be rooting for Ottawa, NYR, Vancouver, and San Jose... non-division champs... helps the NSH pick.

On a Limb

Just looking at the Rangers / Sabres series I see some things lining up in favor of the Rangers.
1. Lundquivst looks very confident while Miller seemed to be flopping all over the ice vs the NYI.

2. Shanny and Jarmir will nuturalize Drury and Briere.
3. Key intangible - Sean Avery provideing an unexpected number of pts. I predict 3 goals and 4 assists.
4. Short travel allows the "veteran Rangers" more than enough time to recover.

Rangers in 6

I don't like Sean Avery, didn't when he was with the Kings, but the kid plays. He has definitely cut his antics since being traded to LA. It's good to see he just shuts up off the ice and plays, what he does on the ice, well, different story.

Playing his antics will benefit him here because that will frustrate the Sabres - they will be thinking about him. Lindy Ruff will for sure whine and cry about him. Hopefully the Rangers find things to turn the series in their favor, I don't see it at the moment, Lundqvist will have to steal a couple games.

I'm sure people cut down on smoking cigarettes this April...that's a plus.

The shock of the Flyers missing the playoffs was never there for me because I was so pissed off early in the season, I had accepted it by January.

From my preseason predictions, I had the Flyers out by now anyways.

Ottawa has been my pick since about a month left in the season. There's something about them that really impresses me. NJ is definitely not at the top of their game. I see Ottawa pulling this one out.

I'm on that limb with you. Lundqvist is wicked hot of late, and the Sabres were anything but impressive against the Islander. Like Roger, I don't pick the number of games, but I'm going with the Rangers in this one.

Avery was on our local news last night. He said he has spent his time "imagining" things the Sabres have done to him, so he already hates him.

Yeah, I am picking the Rangers, but not based on any sound reasoning. It's just that I hate the Devils so much, I know that The Devils will win, and it will be easier for the Devils to beat the Rangers than the Sabres, so then fate dictates the Rangers must win.

My Picks:

NJ over Ottawa in 6.
NYR over Sabres in 7.

Anaheim over Vancouver in 5.
Detroit over SJ in 6.

Neutralize Drury and Briere sure, but who's going to neutralize Pominville, Afinogenov, Vanek, Kotalik, Connolly, and Roy.

I also like the Sabres defense a lot better than I like the NYR's.

.
exactly this isnt Atlanta where if you take away Hossa and Kovalchuk they go away, Buffalo can roll 4 lines, they all can skate and they are all fast. The key to the series will be who controlls the tempo, Buffalo is going to want to play a uptempo game and the Rangers are going to want to slow it down, play team defense and let Lundqvist win the games for them. If Buffalo is allowed to control the tempo, and use their speed it easily favors Buffalo.

I'll actually be rooting for the sabres.

Can't see how people can root for the rangers around here, under any circumstance

i want the NSH pick to be as good as possible...

i also have much more antipathy towards the Sabres and their fans... i don't hold grudges beyond wanting the Flyers to win themselves, after we go out it no longers matters what happens.

This place would be intolerable if the Sabres, Leafs or indeed the Pens ever won.

Your right, but i HATE the rangers. It comes from me hating New York in general, both in other sports and as a city itself

My favourite junior player of all time, Callahan, is playing for them. It's hard to cheer against him, I'll always have a soft spot for Cally. Plus I live closer to Buffalo, my hatred is stronger for them.
