Conklin Starts tonight, second game in a row! I guess the Goaltending controversy is officially on. I asked Tommy if he was playing and he said "Nope" with a shrug and it was pretty clear he was disappointed.

Forward lines at practice were a bit jumbled because Oates didn't skate. Pisani was between D-Vo and Torres for example, pretty sure Oates is playing though.

Bergy would have to be the shooter. I think he actually has a pretty decent shot. I wouldn't complain if Hemsky got a few shots of his own though.

Now then, I have a feeling there is winds of change blowing. If the Oil dont snap out of this slump something has to give.

Oilers win on a Smytty wrap around in the final minute. 3-2
LOL! Nice touch!

I prefer a Conan the Barbarian type of prayer myself...

"Kromm, I have never prayed to you before, I have no tongue for it.

Noone will remember, not even you, if we were good men or bad, why we fought, or how many bad calls the refs made against us. All that matters is that our small market team stood against a team laden with $5 & 6M players.

Battle pleases you Kromm, so grant us one request... grant us REVENGE! And if you don't listen, then to hell with you."

Two teams mired in slumps, plenty of axes to grind, and a huge holiday season crowd will be on the team to get their game going. It could be a really ugly game in any number of different ways.

My prediction:

at least two fights, some bad calls by referee, two or three 5-on-3's for the Nux, and a lot of fans booing everything in sight after the first period. 6-2 Van.

So, just like every second Oilers/Nux game then?

You mean the 4 for its last 61 opportunities Vancouver PP?

This is a matchup of a struggling PP vs. struggling PK-something has to give for one team.

The Vancouver PK however has been just fantastic lately.

I hope it's an entertaining game at least. Getting sick of the constant trapping.

LOL. That wasn't the boldest prediction I've ever made by a long stretch, but it was a win/win... If I'm right I'm right, if I'm wrong I'm ecstatic

The good news for you guys is that we are the resident slumpbusters in that regard. Pho was ofer a million on their pp b4 they played us and they filled the net on their opportunities, it's the same against every team.

Our pk was at 74% for a stretch this season.

That's encouraging... but in situations like this, the Oilers are often slump-busters.

Well, that won't be a factor. Even "just average lately" would get the job done against the Oilers utterly ineffective PP.

I think that if the whole game were played at even strength, the Oilers could give the Canucks a hell of a hard time. They're good 5 on 5 and 4 on 4. But the Oil special teams are just so horrendous that the Oilers are at a defecit basically every game.

Where's Igor? What's the latest on the Oilers PP/PK differential?

Never mind... got that one myself.

On PP... 16 PPG in 148 attempts, with 5 SHG surrendered.

On PK... 40 PPG in 147 attempts, with 4 SHG scored.

Total differental on special teams is... BING BING BING

Minus 25 goals!

That looks like by far the worst in the league. By contrast, they are +15 in even strength situations. How can you explain such a complete contrast? That's utterly baffling. That's Twilight Zone territory.

The Canucks PP has been quiet all year. It's amazing that the West Coast Express line has the stats they do with minimal PP points. Earlier on, the second unit (Sedins, King, Ohlund, Sopel) was lighting it up on the PP, but they've gone stone-cold too.
When the big line starts cashing in on the PP, their stats may be scary.

I'm actually not sure. I think it means something good, though.

Actually I'm not shocked that MacT is starting Conklin again, and read very little into it.

The Canucks have a history of really getting Salo flustered and off his game. Conklin doesn't have any history. He may just grow a competitive grin and hack an ankle of a Canuck forward in return.

Salo clearly gets pretty riled up against these forwards.......and I doubt they have forgotten this.

Good move.

Conklin starting.

Bergeron starting.

Ah. The pieces are in place. It only took MacT about 20 games to realize something the fans have figured out a long time ago...

Prediction: We get shelled early, but Conklin gives a good effort and we escape the 1st with a 1-0 deficit. The Oilers give it their most valiant effort, but against a powerful Canucks team we just cannot overcome their PP unit. 3-2 'Nucks with Oates and Torres tallying

My Sports Select ticket is claiming the Oilers win.. I've got a feeling that our PK is going to look better today.. it wasn't too bad last game IMO, just one breakdown and Minnesota capitalized on it. I'm going to guess 3-1 Oilers in a hopefully really good game.. I need one after that Minnesota snore-fest!

Conklin yes; Bergeron no. He will cost us the game with missed assingments and give-aways.

As opposed to giveaways behind the net due to poor footspeed and the unwillingness to take the hit behind the net to make the play? Or stupid in-zone penalties as a result of those deficiencies?

It's a landmine either way... but at least Bergeron will not get beat on an icing call or at least can provide some offense.

You haven't been watching Vancouver lately, have you? They're like, 4-for-61 or something.
