As noted on the Caps Report the other day, made sense that Clark would be given the C when you look at the roster, but good to hear that is the case.

USA: Clark, Pothier
Czech Rep: Novotny (
Russia: Ovechkin (and Neprayev, FWIW)
Slovakia: Jurcina
Sweden: Backstrom

And if we are making this the official Caps at the 2007 WCs thread, a few links:

Link to IHWC site to link to stats, teams, stories, etc.

USA Hockey site's WC coverage

including the info to the internet subscription service if anyone is interested

If russia loses it can be blamed on the coach for being an idiot regarding Semin.

I suggest checking the USA Hockey site later, they often post pics of a few players each game.

someone posted this link in Vogel's blog comments, a letter from Hanlon (sounds like he received an award for his contributions) to the Belarus ice hockey community

the Swe-Sui (May 2) game can be viewed online

For all Switzerland's game:

go on there: http://zattoo.com/

And choise tsi 2, tsr 2 or SF zwei, in this way, you can see all switzerland's games on the web.
it appears that's the only Swe game that we'll be able so see (until the knockout rounds). Looks like SVT has changed their policy, can no longer watch the tape-delayed broadcasts online if you're outside of Sweden (we were able to watch the WJCs)

Guess who centered Ovechkin today? Nepriajev. He assisted Ovy's goal.

Looks like Backstrom is playing RW today. On a line with Alexander Steen and Jorgen Jonsson

Italy kills a Sweden five-on-three, Backstrom is indeed playing on the right, at least on the power play. Took a decent slapshot that was stopped.

And it looks like Sweden has snapped out of it.

Backstrom had a chance where he received a pass, then let it continue along the ice while he split two defenders (somewhat fought through one), then got a shot on net. It wasn't spectacular (and I don't mean my description to make it sound like it was) but it was nice.

There's ex-capital playing in Team Italy. I'm sure you all remember the great Patrice Lefebvre!!!

Backstrom gets the puck along the offensive left board, gets around a defenseman with possession, sends it around. Seconds later, he picks up the puck in the right corner, goes to the net, and tries to set up a net-crashing winger. The pass is deflected, and the other winger around the crease roofs it for a Sweden goal.

SVT don't hold the rights to this tournament. It's Viasat that holds the rights and their channels TV3 and Viasat Sport are where the games are. I don't know if they are on the internet though.

Click WEBB-TV on the left
http://www.viasatsport.com/index.php...d=1861&lang=se

A pop up window will appear where you can select the game. It's not for free. 48SEK is about $7

Slovakia over Norway 3 - 0

Jurcina off the board, +1

Sweden over Italy 7 - 1

Backstrom: 1 assist, +1

how did Backstrom look on the wing? They have 3 centers playing on that top line

Not very good imo. They should put him back to center and move the more experienced guys to wing.

Bäckström is not used to playing on the wing but he will probably adjust. I'm not so sure it's a good idea to have three centers on the same line though.

He was ok today but Italy was too weak to say anything really. He did a very good job with his assist. That was his goal.

- Clark scored nice one-timer. USA leads 5-0 after 2nd period.
- More I see Ovy and Nepriajev playing together, the more I like that combination. Makfi, sign Nepriajev!

Ovechkin w/ an assist on a Radulov goal. Ovechkin fired a shot from the point, Radulov put in the rebound
