only saw the last 30 minutes, but it looked like a sloppy game & Finland had the better scoring opportunities. From what I saw, the only PP time I saw Backstrom get was 15 seconds on a 5 on 3, though he did see some time on the PK. His line (Steen - Backstrom - Emwall) just doesn't look like it's working. They had one good shift in the 3rd where they drew a penalty, but the rest was just kind of 'eh'.

I just hope his confidence isn't getting shot to h*ll

Mattias Mansson (Brynas) will be skating with Backstrom tonight. Wonder if it will give him a boost?

I think it's wrong to use Steen together with Bäckström, both want the puck.

What Caps fans should be happy about is that Bäckström has improved defensively and is commonly used on the PK, even on the national team.

If theyre running into a problme like that what is going to happen when he;s with Semin or Ovechkin? They both want the puck.

Although they can distribute well too

thats why I think he should be with Ovechkin. Out of Ovechkin/Semin, Semin is the bigger puck hog

Backstrom with a nice play to Steen, 2 - 2.

Similar to the one pass vs Modo earlier this year, was going behind the net and dished it out at the last second

edit: it was very similar to the 1st assist in this game

Backstrom picks up the puck, skates in on the left side, eludes a defender, goes behind the net, but as he's going behind the net, he pass the puck behind him, to Steen who is camping at the left side of the Russian goal. Steen falls for no reason that I saw (will check the replay), but wildly flails at the puck and slowly puts it in between the netminder's pads for a Sweden goal.

Nice hockey sense by Backstrom to find Steen.

watching the Russian feed: they just showed it from an overhead camera, man that was a sweet pass. But yeah, not sure why Steen fell

The officiating is all over the place in this game. Awful calls on both teams.

The Swedes' defense is doing everything possible to give Russia another goal. Some bad turnovers in their own end.

Backstrom picks up the puck off a Sweden shot, stands behind the goal line on the goalie's left, puts a pass right in the slot that Hedstrom converts.

Nice play by Backstrom.
