Yeah, at least Aucoin or Hatcher would fill a need more than Kovalev would. They wouldn't be my first choices but I know what you mean.

I think that is actually going to be the marketing slogan for next year if they buyout Yashin.

The 2007-2008 New York Islanders: We cut the crap!

I don't disagree with you but...

Last 5 seasons:

Kovalev - 310 points in 365 Games. (.849)

Satan - 331 points in 406 games. (.815)

Interesting note...

Satan's contract year was by far his least productive year (2003-04)

57 points in 82 games

I agree. I don't really have much of a problem with the idea of seeing Satan back in the lineup.

However, I'll have a massive problem if I see Yashin come back.

Captaincy aside, historically Yashin has struggled to adapt.

If he comes back I'll burn Richard Gere in effigy.

This would be a stupid trade. If we don't want either of these guys, why are we trading for the guy with the extra year. Furthermore, this is Satan's contract year. He's gonna score 40. Whats the rush to get rid of Satan. He's not making an outrageous amount, he hustles, he cares, and he's got 1 year left (contract year). I don't understand why you all hate him. If you watch him closely you see that he cares. He gets pissed when he gets robbed on a goal, he backchecks, he forechecks, he hits occasionally, he's historically good in the shootout/penalty shot area, he's got a sick name. What else do you want.

Why don't we just pick up Samsonov while we're at it, and field the All Enigma Line.

310/5=62 points per season
331/5=66.2 points per season

Yes, I know Kovy played fewer games, but when averaged out over 5 seasons, I don't think it's unfair to start counting that against him.

I like it, I like it a lot.

To NYI: Alex Kovalev and Sergei Samsonov

To MTL: Miroslav Satan and Kyle Okposo

You know you want it.

Satan had a better year, but I think a motivated Kovalev could be a beast. And if Wang decides to keep Yashin, his presence could only help. I know he can be erratic and moody, but so can the guy we would be trading him for. Then again, Satan on a contract year could be motivated to put up 40! What do you guys think?
if we get out a year earlier and have that flexibility going forward, deal, although i think Satan is a dog and not a complete player by any means

How about a 3 way

To NYI: Alex Kovalev and Sergei Samsonov

To MTL: Alexei Yashin and Rich Pilon's Lisp

To Mars from NYI: Kovalev, Samsonov

To NYI from Mars: Future considerations and a unidentified green globule.

Satan may have a no trade clause. Anyone know for sure?

Mars would have drafted Parise instead of Nilsson.

Not a chance. Never would I move Satan for Kovalev. Especially taking on that extra year. Are you sick?

This is actually upsetting to me. The fact is that if you had to choose one you would take Satan.

The best part about Satan is that after this season his contract is up. We can let him walk and allocate his money elsewhere.

WHY WOULD YOU EVER WANT TO TAKE ON 2 seasons of Kovalev.

How about we trade for Khabibulin also.

Hey there is no reason to take a pot shot at Pilon. That guy left it all on the ice every game.

All the more reason that certain players in this league, post new-cba, should not be offered more than 1yr deals.

Kovalev and Samsonov are prime examples of well-documented players that should be on permanent one year deals. Bob Gainey, of all people, should have never offered those contracts.

(same with Sykora, Satan, Kozlov, etc.)

Also, for all the crap about Yashin, at the very least, he has not pulled a Samsonov or Kovalev off ice in the middle of playoff race...

I am pretty sure Satan has a NTC. That would preclude ANY of this discussion. He wouldn't agree unless he gets an extension and as it is his final here, they are able to do that...

Killer, I like it! Then they could have "Cut the crap Night". Everyone who wears a Yashin, Satan, Kozlov or Robitaille jersey gets in for free. Then between periods they could wheel a giant paper mache toilet out to center ice and "flush" all the jerseys away.

Why aren't we heading promotions for the Isles?

Worth the price of admission.

Seriously, ENOUGH with Yashin, Satan, Kovalev, Samsonov and those of their ilk. There is a reason these guys are perpetually "available."

Kovalev is done. See how Satan produces in a contract year. If we don't like what we see, we can deal him at the trading deadline for some young chips/picks.
