NHL Awards discussion

I admit that I do hate the rangers, as most of us do, but how the hell did Lundqvist get to be a finalist for the vezina trophey??? Not that I think that he sucks. He is really good, but come on!! I mean he's not even in the top 5 for save percentage. He's not in the top 5 for GAA.

Extremely strong 2nd half. New York City.

There's your answer.

He won't win though, so no big deal.

And at least Lundy has somewhat of a D in front of him. Ricky has EXCELLENT numbers and if the people who vote for these things actually realized what DP had to put up with every night (40 shots/game...MOST from close range), maybe he would get some consideration. Ricky did it all by himself... he was the ENTIRE defense HIMSELF!

No Hart nomination for Lecavalier? Did the writers even watch the league this season?

Because Larry Brooks' vote counts as 10 votes.

Lundy had a terrible first half too, despite his amazing second half shouldnt the whole season count?

i feel like most of the nhl sport writers these days are just idiots.

And no Hart mention for Lecaliver who lead the league in goals i believe
No Lecavlier=no chance at the playoffs for the ligthning

I'm sure he won't win, but it's nice to get nominated. DP had an excellent 2nd half as well. Also, twine had some excellent points. I dont' know about 40shots/game... more like 33 vs. Henrik's 28. I'm sure DP's were more quality shots, though.

Henrik obviously gets the nod because of a FEROCIOUS finish to the regular season. Hard to ignore those kind of numbers from a past nominee. His nomination is a great honor.

The argument against Lecav is that he had St. Louis right there with him throughout the season.

It's hard to say that he was the most valuable to his team when both of them had such a tremendous season.

He did have a GREAT finish to the season. Wasn't his GAA under 2.00 since the All Star Break? That's very impressive.

That's very nice, but it is for the WHOLE season, isn't it??? If that's the case, then Mason should get consideration as well. He didn't play a lot of games, but he was amazing for the amount of games played. How about Backstrom? At least these guys did great for the amount of time played. Can't it be said that Lundy played like a chump in the begining? Why shouldn't that count for anything? At least these other guys gave it their all the whole time played.

Def impressive after the All star break, but what were his numbers like before that, I don't believe they were that good...he was 8th overall in GAA and 10th in Sv%...he's a great goalie, but Vezina finalist, that's a bit of a stretch...at least Marty and Luongo had record breaking years or close too it...I'm not buying Lundqvist for Vezina, give me a break

If that argument is going to be made then the Pens coach should not even be MENTIONED when talking about the Jack Adams trophy.

So I guess we should just forget about his first half huh? You CAN'T be considered one of the top 3 goaltenders in the league when you can't crack the top 5 in either GAA or SV%. If Lundy did not play in NYC he certainly would not be one of the finalists..period. For Christ Sakes, he's 8th in GAA and tied for 10th in SV%...Jesus what a joke. That nomination is all about where he plays and the exposure he got down the stretch. It must be because it can't possibly be based on the entire seasons numbers. He would be lucky to be in the top 3 of the New York/New Jersey area let alone the entire league. I usually don't pay attention to awards in professional sports but this was just a travesty.

Doesn't matter anyway. Lindy Ruff just made a phone call, some of Lundqvist's saves against the Sabres during the regular season have just been overturned and are now goals, and some of the goals against Miller are now saves, so Miller is replacing Lundqvist on the ballot.

I agree 100%. But sadly, we don't get to vote.

I'm a bit surprised Ted Nolan wasn't even nominated. To go from being projected last in the NHL to making the playoffs is certainly a big jump and should've garnered some recognition.

I compare the job that Nolan did to the job that Renney did last season and he was nominated. And I agree that Nolan should have been a finalist.

Exactly. And the Pens coach is going to win with 2 of the most dynamic players in the league surrounded by the best young talent the league has to offer. A hampster can coach that team.

Theodore was recognized several years ago based on his post ASG performances that led MON to 8th place...

As usual, folks seem to disregard that the league, players, gm's, etc. give a LOT more weight to pressure situations of the post-ASG then they do the what someone did in OCT/NOV.

I think what he meant is popular hockey cities. I.e. Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, NYC, etc...
