OT: Something funny to think about: If the HFBoards existed in the '70s...

...what would we talk about during the off-season?

In this the year 2007 we're swamped with threads questioning the captain, how we're going to acquire our first real star in over a decade, and the daily Ryder for [insert star here] trade proposals.

If it were the year 1978, what would be a typical topic?

Some good possibilities:

"Poll: How many cups will the Habs have by 2000?

- 25
- 30
- 35
- How ever many they want
"

"What do you think of this trade?

To Habs: Marcel Dionne
To Kings: Brian Engblom + 2nd round pick

I think the Kings might do it because Engblom is a few years younger
"

"Poll: How long till Guy breaks Espo's single-season goal record and when he does, how many will he score?"

- 77
- 80
- 85
- 90
- 100

LOL I was thinking about this while playing NHL 07 and made me laugh a few times so I figured we might be able to come up with some classic 70s styled versions of today's typical threads and have a good laugh. Or maybe I'm just a burn-out

HF in the 70's

Just a quick question for all of you? (always curious to know)...

How long has "Hockey's Future" been existing?????

And, how long have most of you known about Hockey'sFuture? And how?
For me it was through a friend (word of mouth), approx. 4 or 5 years ago...

I love HF!! (we get so much info on these boards + friendly hockey chit-chat!! ).

OK! I'll join the party!!

What is a good nickname for Cournoyer?

Will we ever have a better goalie than Dryden? Gonna be hard to beat that!

My friend here (C. O'Brien) has a crystal ball...he says there will one day be an NHL player who comes close to 200 pts in ONE single season. He even added that this player might even surpass 200 pts in a season!!

Please excuse my friend, he doesn't follow hockey too often!!

I think its time to seriously consider trading Ken Dryden. Despite his record, he doesn't impress me and quite frankly I think he's overrated. I think he gets far too much praise for what he actually contributes, and I truly do question his commitment to the team (why did he have to take that year off a few years ago?! Who does that?!). Let's face it , he's sheltered so heavily by the big 3 its not even funny. Sevigny has performed admirably in net, and he's the future of the Canadiens. We need to give him the chance to play right now and get some experience while he has the benefit of playing behind Robinson, Savard and Lapointe. Having watched him play, I think we can still compete for the Cup. He reminds me a lot of Rogie Vachon, but much better in the style where he keeps his pads on the ice. Plus, by all accounts, he's a great team guy. I just think the 76,000$ that Dryden makes nowadays is ridiculous, and that money can be used elsewhere.

I think we can get an elite forward and defenseman back for him. Maybe the Flyers can throw us Bobby Clarke and one of their big defenseman. I think this is the perfect opportunity to strengthen ourselves without really giving up much.

I think this offseason would be a good time to unload Lafleur too. I just get a sense that he's a primadonna who doesn't really care about the Habs, and only cares about the nightlife and the Ferraris. If we could get some good players like Rene Robert and Rob Ramage, I would be overly happy.

1978? Touchy year in Quebec.

"Why are we still playing the national anthem?"
"Why is the team called Canadiens?"
"Why isn't Bunny starting?"

We should pass on Angelo Savard; he only scored a lot of points last year due to his linemates Angelo Tremblay and Angelo Cyr.

Thread topics:

- Dryden's overrated

- If Quebec separates, will we call the team: "The Montreal René-Levesques"

- The Mcphee appreciation tread: He might be one of the older posters here, but he's still ok

- Guys, the Leafs haven't won a cup in 10 YEARS.

the funny thing is that we would have laughed, not knowing that we'd have a longer dryspell later on...

I hear the NHL is planning to expand to 21 teams by the end of the decade! 21! There isn't enough talent to go around! This is including 3 more Canadian teams! I think that's a huge mistake, way too many Canadian teams these days! At this rate the NHL won't even exist in the States by 1990!
