Nice, I can't blame Avery for that one, what did the guy expect him to say?

Scary moment. For a second it looked like he was gonna lose it.

For such a stupid question, Avery had a pretty tough time answering it. I didn't think it was *that* stupid, I mean it was an indirect way of asking Avery if he'll stop being an idiot.

NOTE: I haven't been watching, so I don't know if Avery has been an idiot, I'm just saying what the reporter is likely saying.

He took some bad penalties in Game 1 and I think that's what the reporter was asking him about.

He seemed to hold back a bit during Game 2 and be smarter about when he tried to start ****.

The guy was referring to a holding penalty Avery took early in Game 1. No amount of "throttling back" would have prevented that. The only person being an "idiot" here is the reporter. Good for Avery.

When someone asks a question they already know the answer to it's stupid.

Hypothetical situation:

Reporter: "Henrik would you like to have that goal back?"

Henrik: "No actually I was quite happy letting that one in, next time I'll go for two softies"

Some reporters, like everyone, don't think before they speak.

I wish the players wouldn't be so lame saying the same things every time:

"yeah we need to come out strong"

"we need to stop committing penalties"

"we know they're a good team" when playing Washington

yawwwwwwwn. Have any Rangers said "we're shooting right into Miller" or anything as remotely opinionated like "our PK is awesome"?

wow... that's ice cold. this guy was on top of the world and king of NY in recent weeks.

he's not a superstar and is barely a 2nd liner. you can't expect miracles or messier-like performances.

Sorry, you're right ... that was cold. I have a bias against guys who over promise and under deliver ... mouth writing checks the body can't cash type of guys ... i am sorry ...

He was King of New York ... no doubt among most ... but I had some doubts when we continued to struggle mightily, even after we picked Avery up, against quality teams. post trade, i believe we were 6 - 14 against playoff teams, including two wins against the Islanders - who made the playoffs in the most marginal way ... Perhaps we annointed the little guy a little prematurely

Anyone who expected Avery to carry us in this series is out of their mind.

He still has done very little SO FAR...

It's not to take away from anything Avery has done for the Rangers this season...BUT...The Sabres to there credit have kept Avery in check...

I thought the way he approached that was pretty unprofessional, but I'd be lying if I didn't laugh.

Of course everyone KNOWS it's a stupid question - but it's the NY media, they need something to write about.

Why is it Avery only gets touchy after he or his team struggles? I hope he isn't a sore loser or a cry baby........the guy did come with a rep. I also think someone needs to tell him how stupid his comments were before game one of this series, a lot more stupid than that question.

I would have to chalk that up to the fact that he is human.

Are you serious? Why would he get "touchy" if his team wins?

I think it took him so long to answer it because Avery Held back what he really wanted to say, He thought b4 he spoke & thats agood thing, im sure he wanted to tell that Reporter to go F him self & F off.

Was it really a stupid question? Or was the Reporter looking to get Avery to come back with a tirade? Thats all we would have needed.

Let's go for three Kaspar avvys in a row.

Anyway, good for Avery, it's so boring seeing guys give cookie-cutter answers all the time. Glad to see someone who's not full of themself (Roenick) chirp to the media.

That isn't what I meant. The knock on Avery before he got here was his mouth got him and his team in trouble. Now so far so good with him since his arival from LA, but the team has played so well since he got here he wasn't put in the situation he is in now to run his mouth. I'm sure he has been asked plenty if stupid questions before but lastnight he decides to take notice of it?

They are great if you can back them up, but so far the only person who I seen hurting from checks in this series is Avery and he's recieving them. In the first two games he has been a non-factor.

Yeah good for him, snap at the media because he is being shut down and beat up in this series. Please, the media is part of playing in NY and there have been many athletes that have come through here and answered those stupid questions, much better players than Avery.

This is what I think when I heard him say that:

How come when John Tortorella drops an F bomb on reporters everyone laughs but when Avery says that a stupid question is just that, he gets criticized?

The Sabres were permitted to grab Rangers all night, just like the penalties that Avery got called for. I don't blame Avery for figuring the jack-off Refs were letting it go. Avery hasn't played great, but he really hasn't taken any dumb penalties or been bad. He's been just okay. He needs to pick it up.....big time

Both those penalties were well within the parameters and standards the Refs permitted the Sabres.
