From a very reliable source: Rangers to keep traditional design on "Edge Jerseys"

I dont think I need to type anymore, my source is very credible and most of you might know of him. He told me the top 5 moments weeks in advance so I beileve anything he says about the Rangers and MSG above anyone else. I was thrilled when he told me this. Discuss. Ask for my source and I shall pm his name, let me know if you have heard it somewhere.

I sort of already knew that the rangers would keep the design.

I wasn't terribly worried, but it's still nice to hear. I would have been outraged if they'd done otherwise.

Great, so now we're going to have a Fraggle Rock theme for the Rangers? Then again, sometimes they do look like a bunch of Muppets out there...

Confirmation or not, I'd be surprised if they'd screw with their uniform design, especially considering how badly it went over back in the '70s. It's not like those uniforms looked so bad, but they're really just not going to improve on the classic jerseys.

Well I can't take all the credit, you should take a bow for finding such a smooth, silky material.

Somehow I just knew I was going to get dragged into this thread

Yeah I'd really be interested in seeing Uncle Traveling Matt Cullen.

Great news. Not to doubt your source, but I hope he's Glen Sather's boyfriend or I'm still worried

Zach, when did he say this?

I haven't spoken to him in a while... I wonder if my aunt knows anything, she works with him.

Tonight at hockey, we were talking about the documentary and I asked him about the jerseys.

I read and heard on the Fan590-Hockeycentral with Nick Kypreos and Darren Millard every NHL team requested the same current uniform in the new RBK version. Some teams may have new logos which has nothing to do with the new uniforms. The Rangers considered changing to the old John Ferguson design he had with the Rangers and Wiinipeg Jets but sanity prevailed in the end

I posted these in another thread - the Ranger jerseys with the edge design. I think its pretty safe to say, they are making the right decisions by keeping their current design.

Although, I must say, it doesnt look too bad in the style of the 3rd Jersey.

The third jersey doesn't look too bad... I wouldn't be surprised to see something like that if/when 3rd jerseys return in 2008-09.

The RANGERS text is so small. Looks a little odd.

Lettering below looks like the normal size, but on less of an "angle" and moved closer together. Tough to get the same look as the traditional jersey with thos big stretchy underarm sections I guess.

even those i think are wrong. They shoud still have the horizontal stripes on them on ther bottom, and no colors on the sides/underarms.

The new look isn't anywhere near as bad as what I had been hearing. The horror stories making the rounds included a tucked-in look and a totally vertical design that couldn't allow for the traditional horizontal stripes that can be found near the bottom of just about every current jersey.

Fortunately, neither is true.

RBK Hockey admitted it seriously considered tucking in the jersey, but it skated away from that idea after further discussion and testing indicated a possible overheating problem for the player.

As for the striping, NHL Consumer Product Marketing Group VP Brian Jennings told me that the jerseys, which are more formfitting than the current model, will be able to accommodate that design.

That should calm the nerves of many team executives, who were hearing the same negative rumors. In fact, several execs were so concerned that they intimated that their clubs would not wear the jersey and would opt to attach the appropriate corporate logos to their current sweaters for next season. In recent days, however, those same execs have sounded as though they believe that drastic measure won't be necessary.

The NHL and Reebok have been designing and testing the new uniforms for 30 months. That quiet period has spawned several myths, Jennings told USA TODAY. No, NHL players won't wear form-fitting garb like Olympic speedskaters. No, the new uniforms won't eliminate horizontal stripes, although some clubs will experiment with vertical striping next season.

My source said "There just putting the same design on the new style of jersey". So that to me means we keep the diagonal lettering and the horizontal striping.
