why does the NHL have to have every team have both a home and away shirt? In soccer teams have a 1st choice shirt and a 2nd choice shirt. That way if the Rangers play a team on the road and our 1st choice blueshirts does not conflict with that teams 1st choice dark colored shirt, we'd be able to be the Broadway Blueshirts on tour.........

If given a choice, I want the blue at home.
True. The ideal way would be to have both teams in color as long as it wasn't too confusing (Devils, Wings, Habs, Canes, Blackhawks ect in red, Flyers in orange) but since so many teams have either black or blue jerseys, that would only work for a handfull of teams.

It's funny, I prefer watching the rangers play at home in the blue, but when watching any other game (not involving NYR), I really prefer seeing the home team in white.

Someone else mentioned in the OHL (I think) they wear each jersey at home half the season. I think I could hang with that.

That would be ideal, though then comes the question, which jersey is worn in the second half (and subsequently the playoffs) at home?

But yea, I think that's a great idea.

I've felt this way exactly since the swap in 2003-04, I love the ranger blue at home.

i think this is because teams dont want to carry 2 different jerseys on the road and everything. i remember last year when calgary came into town to play the rangers and islanders calgary brought their black jerseys and the rangers and islanders played home games with their road whites on.. i think that is the reasoning behind it but i could be wrong

But then, it's hard for me to say that I wish the dark jerseys were worn at home because watching the red wings in red at Joe Louis Arena doesn't seem right to me at all.

I wish they could come up with some system like those mentioned above, where half the season was dark at home and the other half white at home.

why not just let the teams decide what jerseys they wear?
i can see its an economic issue but its not like the equipment managers dont know how to use phones and the teams can let each other know which jerseys they are going to wear the next day.

because the problem is that they usually aren't flying back home before each game of a road trip. so they would have to bring both jerseys with them. If the home team always wears light or dark, the visitor need only pack one jersey for however long the trip is.

you are right.. i did not consider those long road trips...
i was thinking in the soccer dimension where you play home every other week.
yea.. so thats indeed an issue.. but they still could make some sort of schedule. the equipment manager jersey schedule or whatever..

It's not a bad idea in theory, but I remember a game a few years ago between the Rangers and the Habs. It was some throwback game honoring former Canadians and the teams each more their darks since that's what they did in the old days. Even though they didn't wear the same colored jersey it was confusing as hell because they each wear blue helmets and blue pants... after the 1st intermission the Habs were wearing white helmets to alleviate confusion which helped but it also looked horrible.

There's more to consider than just the jerseys, the entire outfit is important.

I like seeing blue for the Rangers but I hate seeing the same white jerseyed opposition every game. Like the OHL, the ECHL wears lights at home for the 1st half then dark the 2nd half.

The Rangers jerseys will look the same next season with the exception of the new material. Blue will be worn at home and white on the road. The third jersey will not exist, the Rangers will only have two jerseys starting next season.

wasn't it confirmed that the NHL is going back to white at home next year? Unless the Rangers lobbied Bettman to keep Blue at home, our historical and rightful color.

Part of the reason the NHL switched to white at home was 3rd jerseys -- that required road teams to travel with an extra shirt so that the home team could wear dark color 3rds. Without 3rds next year, more likely to happen. Like the half season suggestion.
