Habs' 2007 draft position?

With San Jose out in six against the Wings, it seems to me that the Habs will draft 12th and 16th in the first round. Does this make sense?

I know Washington is tending offers for their 5th pick. I would assume this was for an NHL-ready player and not just more picks?

22nd...16 was impossible. If the Rangers had beat the Sabres we would have received the 21st pick. But that was the lowest we could get

1st- 12th
1st- 22nd (sharks-rivet)
2nd- 42nd
3rd- 64th (caps- Zednik)
3rd- 72nd
5th- 132nd
5th- 141st (dallas-ribs)
6th- 162nd
7th- 192nd

There's talk of 2 comp picks, 42nd overall to the wild and 45th overall to the Sabres. If that's the case then our picks drop down 2 spots after our 2nd rounder which would go to 43rd. Hopefully there won't be any more comp picks.

Trade Perezhogin, 1st round pick(22nd), 5th round pick(132nd)

To Washington for thier 5th overall.

Draft Alzner 5th overall, then take Hamill with the 12th pick.

That would be my dream draft.

You would give up an established NHLer and a 5th round pick, in order to move up 17 spots????

You do realize that draft picks don't always work out?

You do realize that a 5th pick is most of the time ending in a good player?

Last time we picked 5th in a first round we ended with..Carey Price

What's the point of having the rights on Perezhogin until he's UFA if he doesn't want to play here and leaves for Russia?

Oh well 22nd and 12th is pretty good and might be a package that could land the Canadiens a top 6 or 7 pick or with a player or two a big suprise.

This will be an exciting draft day.

22nd pick plus a young depth D-man in Josh Gorges in exchange for an aging UFA D-man who had pneumonia at the time is pretty damn good.

We should have plenty of options on draft day. Edmonton and St Louis have some nice draft options as well with their multiple 1st round picks.

we have 9 picks

with this draft we should be able to fill any holes we may have in our long range depth. It may not be great draft year but i have faith in our staff that they will find the dudes.

I hope we get a big top pronger type defence prospect and a big top center prospect, and some other guys to develop into good supporting cast players.

Go Habs Go

Shouldn't we get a comp. pick because of Perehogin departure?

I thought you were getting a compensatory pick if a RFA leave the team.

That never happened. You used to get one if you lost a UFA, but they did away with that. Now the only way you get a comp pick is if a team doesn't sign their 1st round pick. The Wild are said to not sign AJ Thelen who was picked 12th overall but hasn't really panned out.

What Dan said is the case. What you may also be thinking of is the compensation a team gets if another NHL team signs an RFA to an offer sheet, and the original team doesn't match.

This doesn't apply here as Perezhogin signed with an RSL club. The Canadiens still own Perezhogin's NHL rights for now.

Is the 4th pick for Johnson included in this list or is it omitted because it is now Phoenix's?

As if we got a 3rd for Zednik and only gave up a 4th for Johnson. Gainey is a genious.

The point of moving up 17 spots is to snag a very promising defensemen, Alzner. Who we dont have enough at all IMO. And I posted that before Perezhogin signed, and I have thought all along that we werent using him/he wasnt performing, so its not that big of a deal man. And we have two 5th rounder, pretty close to each other, so the 5th rounder means squat. Lastily, 17 spots in this draft makes a hell of a lot of a difference, the top 6 or 7 are very intriguing prospects.

It's going to have to take some damn good scouting if we get Pronger at 12 and a #1 centre at 22. Out of our 9 draft picks only 3-4 might become full-time NHLers (on your own club), unless you have a great draft year.
