jagr makes big statement

heres what jagr said in an article on NBC Sports.com

Quote:
"The last two months, the muscles started building up again, and I could feel it a lot better," he said. "I lost a lot of muscle, especially in my upper body, especially on the shoulder. And no matter how hard I worked, it looked like nothing was happening. And the last three months, the last two months, it was getting bigger and bigger every day. This is the first time in the last two years it's going to have time to work during the summer. I think I can be better than I was last year, or maybe the year before that. I'm going to make sure I'm going to be the best player I've ever been."
Good news from a confident Jaromir Jagr

As time goes by, my admiration for this guy just continues to increase.

I have no reason to doubt that he'll back up his words and have a better season next year than this year.

Definitely. I still think he's the best forward in the league when he's healthy and I hope he can show this next year.

I don't remember where I heard it or read it, but his father told him he would play his best hockey at 37.

That would be his last year with us and possibly in the NHL.

Heres to hoping dad is right!

Well if Jagr can get his shoulder back to its pre-injury strength, then I feel sorry for the league's goaltenders. Because the wrist shots he was putting on net up until the injury against the Devils were absolute lasers. I wouldn't be surprised if he scored 45+ goals again with a healthy shoulder and full season under his belt.

Confident and determined...

For whatever reason, he wants it bad in New York... Could see it in the playoffs.

He is the best when he's at his best. Will be scary good next year with a full, healthy offseason.

Rangers just have to get a legitimate 2nd line player who can carry things there and we take our run at the cup. Don't be suprised if Sather takes a shot here with a Drury/Gomez like signing.

the only thing stopping Jagr are himself, and his linemates. if his linemates are off, he is much easier to contain (not easy by any means) and if he is off, it kills what his linemates can do. if he is on all year, as are his linemates, the guy is talented enough to lead the world in goals and assists.
if everything falls right, i could see him scoring 55-60 and netting another 65-80 assists.

The only thing stopping him is a lack of a second line with scoring punch. Without it, he is harrased way too much. Get a top scorer for the second line, and even on off nights JJ will lite it up. His bad nights are good nights for most of the NHL

You can see it in all their faces. They are pissed. They know they should have beaten the Sabres. Jagr especially knows it and feels it. I've never seen a more determined Jagr. He'll be super ready to go. If the Rangers can put that 2nd line center in place and solidify the D some more.....

It's going to be an interesting summer in Rangerland.

I truely think Jagr is such a special and freakish athlete, that once he get's his shoulder stronger, his game will not drop off for the rest of the time he is with us. I am not sure if it was during the lockout, or his last season in Washington/Rangers, but it as if he discovered a new way for himself to dominate the game. He doesn't skate with the same speed he did, and doesn't try to dipsy doodle with the puck as much, but not because he can't, but because I think he has found a more effective way to play at his age. I know it was a special set of circumstances that landed him, but to get a player of his caliber for Anson Carter, and count as only half a hit on the salary cap, was the most fortunate trade this franchise has had in over a decade.

He will have 15-20 more goals next year just if he plays same as he did this year, but with a healthy shoulder.

How many freaking times did we see him this season pull up into his trademark spot in the slot and rip a wrister high that went wide by 20 feet without being deflected? That **** would go in if healthy, and did a lot in 2005/6

Jagr's a beast and he doesn't settle with being anything else. That's what we want to hear. I'm expecting/hoping a placebo effect where he is convinced he will have his prime in his later years.

Oh and yea definatly need a second line that can score all season if we want to do anything in the POs. Otherwise Jagr will overextend and be overabused in the reg season and not have all that much left come POs.

I was ecstatic to get him at the time, mostly because it meant getting rid of Anson Carter (a standout waste of roster spot) and getting Jagr at half price, I figured even not trying he was posting a point a game that it couldn't be that bad.

Now he's really turned into the leader of this team, and talking the way he has and showing the passion he has shown, I think he could wind up with the Art Ross next season, and hopefully force our way through the playoffs.
